Maureen O'Hara Dead at 95

While she acted until the year 2000, I only remember her from the 1940s-1950s movies.

“There’s be no locks and bars between us, Mary Kate Dannaher, except those in your own mercenary little heart”.

Very much a case of “she was still alive!?”, but much loved, and RIP.

Another part of my childhood gone. It’s a bit depressing to note that I saw her in many of those old westerns when they were first released.

Not a lot of points.

Damn! RIP. :frowning:

O’Hara lead an incredibly successful and long life. She apparently enjoyed fairly good health right up until the end. She was given an Honorary Oscar in Nov 2014. Looked really good for 94. Hope I’m doing that well at that age.

RIP You’re with all the other classic actors now. What a sight that must be. James Cagney. Jimmy Stewart, John Wayne, John Ford and many others together again.

She had so many awesome roles in her career. Starting with Miracle on 34th Street and of course Mary Kate from the Quiet Man. I loved her as John Candy’s mom in Only the Lonely (pretty much a remake of Marty but awesome in its own right.) Funny she made 2 of the movies I most closely associate with Holidays.

About 40 years ago, I saw her on stage in Cheaper by the Dozen. She was also superb in Only the Lonely in 1991 (her last theatrical film) and deserved a supporting actress nomination for it. And, of course, Miracle on 34th Street is one of my favorite Christmas films.

A truly great career and a wonderful woman.

Nice username/OP combo

The headline I saw said ‘Legendary Actress Dies’. Legendary is right, great actress taking on tough roles and pulling them off with style. 4 or her 5 films with John Wayne are classics, and she appeared in plenty of other quality movies. A bright star has dimmed, goodnight Maureen, sleep tight tonight.

I’ve always wondered if O’Hara was up for the role with Bogart in The African Queen. That feisty role would have been so perfect for her.

Hepburn and O’Hara had such similar screen personas. I suspect they often competed for the same roles.

Fell madly in love with her when I first saw The Quiet Man - well as madly as a 14 year old boy can fall.
Truly great actress and sexy as all hell.

I loved her opposite John Wayne in McLintock. If you ask me, not that you did, she stole the picture.
