Iirc, even FDR was against government unions.
Which is funny. I put in as much effort as he did into his OP, which was essentially just “I’m really in favor of all these demands.” If you can’t even make an argument, then there’s nothing to refute.
And he’s since admitted that graduate degrees have not been shown, on average, to benefit students. But he hasn’t retracted his support of the measure.
Um, okay. I’ve said pretty much all I want to say on the grad pay issue, but if you’ve not read the whole thread, or if you have and don’t find my points compelling, keen. But your mischaracterization of my posts is contemptible bullshit.
I just reviewed the thread, and yeah, you totally did. I misremembered the exchange, in which he argued his point so cursorily that I went ahead and Devil’s Advocated it, complete with links, and then explained why the position he could’ve argued was unpersuasive to me, in that post and a few follow-ups. My apology for suggesting that you wrote what he wrote; instead, you wrote basically what I wrote when I imagined him making a complete argument :).
That’s correct. See the long quote from FDR in the wiki article on purpose bloc sector unions in the US:
Stupid auto-correct.
That should say “public sector unions”
Wow.
In Canada, collective bargaining and striking are both constitutional rights.
While I can certainly understand the teachers desire to strike I still HOPE they dont. I remember back in the 70’s KCMO teachers had a month long strike that the district never fully recovered from.
Their should be some other recourse like a judge whom can listen to the case and they should be able to issue orders to make whatever changes are needed.
