For Ken Kesey.
This guy affected my life in many ways…
I repeat:
Damn. One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest had a big effect on me when I read it as a teenager. Sad news.
Another here…
The Prankster spirit lives on though.
The name doesn’t ring a bell. I’ve heard the title Coo-coo, but not what it’s about.
I never read the book just saw the film…I’m there with you Astroboy
Damn. Sometimes A Great Notion is one of my favorite books.
Bye, Ken. The Merry Pranksters will miss you.
Man, some days I just feel old…
RIP.
I wonder if he ever got around to seeing the movie?
knack, I recommend reading One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, or at least seeing the movie (you won’t be sorry!)… and then read The Electric Cool-Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe.
You know, as a young lit. student in the mid '80s, I got to meet Allen Ginsberg… my favorite poet.
He visited my university for several days, and participated in several of my classes (he signed Plutonian Ode for me… everyone else had Howl, required for that class, and I had Plutonian Ode…). I had a brief chance to talk to him one-on-one.
The only thing I could think to ask him was “What was it like hanging out with Kesey and the Pranksters?” D’oh! Stupid!! I can’t ask him that… it has nothing to do with his work at all! So I just sucked the drool back off my chin, and didn’t ask him anything at all…
[sup]Astroboy14: providing a negative role-model for 35 years and counting…[/sup]
I’ve been planning to read One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest for quite a while, now.
I guess this is the push I needed.
