May I present to you - Thomas Quasthoff!

A truly remarkable singer, and a fascinating person.

Some samples of his artistry as a classical singer -

Franz Schubert - Die Wetterfahne, from Die Winterreise
Robert Schumann - Hör’ ich das Liedchen klingen, from Dichterliebe

And as a jazz singer -
With Bobby McFerrin at the Vienna Jazz Festival
An excerpt from the documentary ‘The Dreamer’
Singing ‘All Blues’ with the Spardosen Trio.

Enjoy!

I just want to give this one bump, to see if any of the crowd who can watch YouTube at work are as impressed as I am. If not, I’ll go away quietly…

Very rare to see a classical musician (besides Wynton) who can swing too. (Just try listening to Perlman playing jazz for one example). Pretty cool.

Oh yeah - I know this guy! The great singer who was born with the deformities from his mom taking Thalidomide when she was pregnant with him. Yeah, he is supposed to be amazing. There was a long write-up about him in The New Yorker a few years ago, IIRC…

I look forward to checking out the clips - I can’t really do that on the weekends when I am focused on kids’ sports events and running errands…
