May the creator(s) of "System Tool2011" be lobotomized

You are so right. When my house burned down, I just spent a few hours reinstalling its OS and it was right as rain. Wonderful analogy.

What about all the data? Suppose you lost your personal business records, or important e-mails and yes it could take weeks to rebuild such records if you even can. So I get the impression Malware is just fine with you because you happen to be ready to reload.

Do you really not want anything done to these crooks that extort money for fake anti-virus too? How about credit card fishing, that is OK I guess because you can get another number issued? So you all like the system tool 2011 in the OP then?

Very similar to: Why not just blame the victims of car crossfire gunfights too, I mean bullet proof glass is available and they should have had that, and it is not the crooks fault for shooting at random homes or cars, it is mine for not having every barrier up I can buy. Is that the way you all think?

Fun stuff here

I don’t get malware either as a general rule (running OS X here) but I still run an antivirus program and anti-spyware. I also use Adblock, Flashblock, and NoScript running Firefox, though there’s not much I can do about Safari. I also make sure to have everything running when I use an emulator to run Windows or boot into Windows and of course all such instances of Windows have antivirus and anti-spyware installed. I don’t want problems crossing over and I don’t want to be some kind of Typhoid Mary if I use my computer on an open network.

You are a crazy person.

I’m normally pretty careful. I don’t go to a ton of websites that might be shady, I use Chrome with the Flash blocked, I don’t download files unless I am absolutely sure of what they are and why I’m downloading them. I’ve never really had an antivirus scanner running full time, and I haven’t had a problem since I was 16–that was eleven years ago, and was because my friend had sent me an infected file.

Then, two days ago, I got this. A system restore from an earlier date and a scan with an antivirus did the trick in about an hour, but man, this thing was annoying!
