I am going to the Mayan Riviera in 36 hours
A chance for me and my wife to get away from it all. No kids. None. We may not come back.
We plan on taking a tour of the Mayan ruins and maybe going snorkling (sp?). Any other suggestions?

Where (what town or resort) are you going?
You can fly (Don’t be disturbed by the wreckage 'dozed to the sides of the run way, they’re old.) from most of the resorts to Chichen Itza (chicken pizza ?!?) Its really worth the trip.
I’ve only been to the riviera side on cruises, so basicly, I know shopping and bars… but then, what more could a girl ask for?
My friend and ex-boss winters there regularly – he’s just back from a monthlong stay there. Make a point of checking out Playa del Carmen – beautiful beaches (and occupants thereof! ;)), formerly unspoiled (but now getting popular and hence crowded), and a short way south of Cancun down the coast.
We are staying at the Club El Mandarin which is 10 minutes outside of Playa del Carmen. We intend to spend some time there. Perhaps we will take the ferry to Cozumel for the day. I have never been on a boat bigger than a small fishing boat.
I think we may be going to Tulum ruins instead of Chicken Pizza (I love that).
I returned this morning from a cruise to Cozumel and Playa del Carmen. The weather was perfect, the water was gorgeous, the scenery and beach inhabitants even more so. I didn’t visit any of the ruins, but heard good things about Tulum, Xcaret and Xel-Ha. The prices in Playa del Carmen were better than Cozumel, but the beaches weren’t as nice IMO. Cozumel had NO surf at all, Playa just a little.
Enjoy yourself and remember the DEET and sunscreen. Also, avoid the water - stick to tequila
Ooooh, we had the best vacation ever in the riviera two years in a row - we stayed at the Barcelo - you absolutely must go to Xel Ha snorkeling…it’s amazing…also if you rent a car there is a fellow (a Texan, I believe) who runs Casa Cenote - it’s amazing for lunch and snorkeling (they have a cenote leaving from their back yard)…Chichen is wonderful, along with Tulum - it’s gorgeous too. Skip the tours and take a bus or taxi to the sites, you’ll have all the time in world to wonder around opposed to being on a schedule. The local buses are very cheap and easy to get on. Just make sure they are the local buses - you’ll see the bus stops at the front of your hotel (basically four sticks with a roof).
This is a little late but we had a great time in Mexico.
We went to Coba and climbed the tallest pyramid in the Yucatan, we both went snorkeling for the first time at Xel-Ha, and most importantly, my wife and I got to spend a week together without kids and other distractions (not counting the beach view) before we add another one to our fold this summer.
We ended up taking a tour of Coba and I was a little disappointed that did not follow Canadiangirl’s advice and go on our own. There were even private guides available that would take you through at your own pace. But we went with a group tour because it was convenient. If I go again, I would take the private guide.
We found out the Winnipeg was -50C with windchill several nights while we were gone. Now we have come back to very bitter friends and family
