Maybe I'm just on a post-holiday, back to home comforts high - but FTFT I actually...

… really want to meet some of you people.

You are my kind of people, and I think we’d have a blast.

I would have to narrow it down though… no conservative Christians (though I’m curious about Polycarp who’s political leanings are unknown to me but I know he’s a Christian). Nobody who isn’t a film and/or computer geek. I want to meet people who are likely to share my opinions about films.

FTFT (for the first time?)

Well, I’d like to meet you, too. Send me a ticket to the Isle of Man and I’ll be right there.

I hear the Isle of Man sucks but you should come to the next Dublin SDMB-type gathering whenever the hell that’ll be.

If I’m ever around the UK, then I’m totally down.

You got it in one. FTFT does indeed mean For The First Time.

I meant to clarify that in the body of the post but I forgot

Those who have replied so far are coincidentally some of the very people I’d love to meet!

The Isle of Man sucks if you are a) spoiled by better places or b) you live here. But otherwise it has its charms. Before I chose to live here I loved it when I came here on Holiday.

I’ve never been on the Irish mainland (you can see it from the west of the IOM) I would love to visit.

I’ll bet it doesn’t suck. I’ll bet it has a nice pub or two, some friendly newsagents, a decent bookstore or two, a good Boots and / or Marks and Sparks, and some eccentric characters who may irritate you, but who add color to the landscape. I’ll bet it has some nice quaint buildings and a decent public transport system and is pedestrian friendly with placid views of the sea or channel. Your police are polite as well.

(You all truly don’t know how good you’ve got it. Seriously. When I was in London by myself more than a few years ago now, all I heard was the Londoners complaining about the Tube. To me, it was like a dream. Tubes came every 4 minutes or whatever. On our Metra line (from the suburbs to the city and back) they come every other HOUR on Sundays; about every 15 minutes at rush hour on weekdays.) You have a choice of something like 5 newspapers–we have 2 and only one edition of each per day.

Anyway, unless I can see it all for myself, I’m in no position to judge yea or nay. So, where is my ticket?

Lobsang - Doesn’t the Isle of Man have some interesting history/pre-history? Are there any good museums or architecture? Yes, I’m boring. And I may be too conservatively Catholic for you to hang out with. Not that I can afford to go there or have anyone to look after the animals. Oh, well - maybe you can post some pictures.

StG

 I’ve never considered anyone’s religion when hanging out with them…?
I hope there are some museums and some art galleries. Heck, a British dollar (pound) store is interesting to this American geek.

Don’t tell anyone, but one of my favorite things to do in UK is go see sights all day, eat a nice dinner and then go back to my B&B room and watch British TV. British TV is hysterical. The ads are fun; the shows are all tongue in cheek–even the serious dramas have a touch of it; the news is good. Trust me, Brit TV (not BBC America which is shite) is a whole nother world. I don’t watch American TV, but I’m a TV junky when in UK. Ssssshhhh–it’s our secret.

Well come on over Lobsang! I had a look at the ferries. They take approx. 2hrs 55 minutes for the crossing. There doesn’t seem to be many in winter though.
