I don’t know why the general population has so many people that expect the teachers to rival God in purity of thought and deed. The requirements of sainthood are not in the contract yet, but I expect one of the southern states to add it soon. The requirements of teachers gets more asinine every year. Some group in Wisconsin wanted to require teachers not be overweight or they couldn’t be the proper roll model. The kids are fat because the teachers are fat was the basic premise of that movement. It didn’t get passed, and it died the death foolish movements like this deserve. It’s the kind of stupid double standards that the people keep sticking teachers with. Look home first to blame why the students are how they are.
Actually, as an atheist, one of the reasons vampire stories don’t interest me is that they are so shot through with religious claptrap.
More stupid stuff along the lines of the article linked to in the OP.

Fark comes up with this kind of stuff two or three times a week. It’s a shame that the hiring decisions of our nation’s teachers are in the hands of the most prudish among us.
Yeah, I have to say, I can’t get nearly as worked up about a teacher at a religious school getting fired over this as a teacher at a public school.
Oh, hilarious! My oh my, that certainly is a knee-slapper.
And of course that parent would be well-advised not to send his or her child to St Christopher’s Church of England High School. Because, you see, St Christopher’s Church of England High School has certain clues that suggest that the staff thereof might just be involved in promoting Christianity.
The nerve of them!
Well, no.
This story refers to a former teacher appearing in Playboy. The teacher resigned her position prior to becoming a Playboy model. The story does mention she was a teacher while appearing as a member of the highly competitive “US Bikini Team” but also confirms that she was cleared of any wrongdoing in that matter.
So this story refers to a former teacher who has not been the subject of any disciplinary action for her appearance in Playboy.
She resigned for no reason at all, I’m sure. :dubious:
We need not imagine a shrouded conspiracy to deprive her of her job for puritanical reasons:
She may well have decided that modeling, especially nude, especially when she looks like… well, HER… was a more rewarding career choice.
It’s both. This is Britain. We do some weird things.
Fair enough, but I don’t see that there’s necessarily a conflict between teaching and modelling, even nude modelling. I mean, it’s not exactly a 9 to 5 job. Prolly pays a lot better, on the high end. As for the low end, I remember a story about an attractive but unsuccessful webcam girl who was showing the world her every crack and cranny, as it were, and pulling in only $60 a month. That’s gotta hurt.
Good point…official state religion and all that. But, still, if the school is Church-affiliated, that should give the parents some indication that it might have a Christian POV, right? Or is that not typical in Britain? Not trying to be snarky at all, I am just wondering if the assumptions/expectations would be different than they are here in the US?
It’s pretty obvious that they can. I personally don’t see why they should. Assuming the school is not part of the Lagos, Nigeria Diocese, I don’t see how it’s such a big deal that they’re firing a good teacher over it. I mean if the Bush Administration could get past Scooter Libby’s fiction, St. Christopher’s ought to be able to deal with this.
Oh, I want to make them all watch Catherine Breillat’s movie Romance. It’s about a first-grade teacher who wants sex. Real bad. She even accepts an invitation from the principal of her school. Turns out he has his own S&M dungeon. He ties her up and starts undressing her. She does not find this fulfilling, the ropes irritate her skin, she just wanted a lay, so she goes looking elsewhere. You can actually get away with making movies like this in France.
