I wasn’t especially taken with it on first listen. In fact, I “finished” the album more out of a sense of duty than anticipation. After that first go-'round I was ok being done with it.
Anyway, I listened again, and damned if I’m not loving it. It’s grown on me quite a bit and I currently can’t get enough of it.
I’m always happy when Paul puts out a new album. I’ve been listening to it over the last couple of days and as usual it’s a mixed bag. The opening track is an instant classic for me, while I can do without Women and Wives. It’ll take a few more spins to fully appreciate the rest of the album.
Of the three “McCartney” albums it comes in second (didn’t like McCartney II much at all). While I don’t think McCartney III is as “good” as New or Egypt Station, it’s just nice to know that Paul has the creativity and energy to put something new out.
