McDonald's "McAfrika" burger: "inappropriate and distasteful"?

There is also a large group of people who specialize in being offended by McD. Blaming the corporation for all things evil.

The BBC article quotes a rep from ‘African Youth in Norway’ who supports McD’s and makes a good point: “The word Africa does not need to be associated with war, hunger, aids and catastrophes all the time,” she said.

“Finally we see someone who uses the continent’s name in a positive way. Even though there is a terrible shortage of food in some areas of Africa, this is far from the situation all over the continent”.

It could be argued that these people who are offended seem to be thinking that Africa=famine, and there’s nothing else about Africa. That sounds a lot closer to racism than what McD’s is doing. It’s a fuck of a lot closer to stupidity and ignorance, for sure.

Nobody’s accusing McDonald’s of racism from what I’ve seen so far. They’re just saying that the McAfrika is in poor taste given that there’s a famine there. I support the McAfrika simply because it is nice to see Africa associated with something positive for a change.

For the most part I do associate Africa with negative things. When I think Africa I think of famine, civil wars, dictators, and AIDS. Yes, I do realize that Africa is a big place and that there’s more then that to the continent but most of the time when I hear about Africa in the news the story isn’t positive. I don’t think it is a matter of racism though.

Marc

Jeez, didn’t you get the memo?

Bacon grease
Crumbled bacon
Whole Milk
Eggs Whites
White flour (for thickening)
Lard

Mmm…

This would please the left-wingers…it contains NO Meat, and No Calories! Perfect for the socialist left-leaning idiots! When you buy one you get to steal a white farmer’s land!

I want a McAmerica burger!

Here you go: “It’s inappropriate and distasteful to launch cheese strips shaped liked boomerangs when large portions of Australia are suffering a terrible boomerang drought!”

Band na… nah, too obvious.

Agree with the African Youth in Norway. It’s refreshing to see Africa being referred to in a not “poor little victim” context. Everyone is aware of the problems and the misery, it’s nice to balance that occasionally with some of the other images.

The McAfrika sounds almost exactly like the McMaroko that they had last year, which was for the record, REALLY tasty, and I hate McDs. The McMaroko was, it bears repeating , yummy yummy yummy.
