By far the most surprising thing to me about McGovern’s comments is the fact he’s alive. I could have sworn he died a year or two ago.

I’m even more interested in those liberals who said a candidate’s war record matters greatly in the 2004 and 2000 election, yet seemed to think that in the 1996 and 1992 election, when war heroes were running on the Republican ticket, that it was time to put the whole Vietnam mess behind us.

A POTUS does not need to be a hawk to send troops to war – only to send troops to war stupidly or dishonestly. Which Clinton never did (Somalia was useless, but not stupid).

I have heard military guys wish that Clinton “had let us finish the job” in Somalia, but I think he realized we were killing more people than we were helping.

Could be. Also, his (McGovern’s) wife died a few months ago so I might have heard the tail end of that story.

9% approval ratings? Do you realize probably more Americans think the Earth is flat than think Cheney is doing a good job.

I’m not sure how many of them think the Earth is flat, but according to National Geographic, it is a fact that 11% of Americans can’t find their own country on a map. Something tells me that there is a very large overlap between those poor souls and Cheney’s supporters.
