meaning of "chop it up like fine folk"

In the movie “The Blind Side,” one of the characters from Big Mike’s old neighborhood invites him in and says something like “we’ll chop it up like fine folk.” Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly does this mean? Is it a drug reference?

As I haven’t see the movie and you’ve cited the quote almost devoid of context, this is going to be a WAG. If they’re talking about food I guess they mean they’ll bother to cut it up before eating, like more refined people do.

If you can say what the characters actually then did, we may be able to make it a little clearer.

In some contexts “chop it up” is a drug reference, but in this one it means talk, hang out, catch up, shoot the breeze, chew the fat.

I guess in the context it could be either one. They do spend time talking, but the person Michale Oher is talking to is a drug dealer, and it looks like there are people in the background preparing lines of coke.

Oh, really? I haven’t actually seen the film, though it’s been on my shelf for a while.

Yes, preparing cocaine or other drugs for sale or use (e.g., rolling a blunt) is a referent. Preparing a lot of drugs for sale is work, and wouldn’t be included in a “hang out” reference, but preparing a little and getting high goes with conversation and old friends; in that sense it could be both.

For the sort of dealer who indulges in his own product, there might not be much distinction between the meanings.

Seems to be a lyric in several rap songs. More context, but still nothing definitive.
