Meat Loaf had a heart attack? Wait a minute -- Meat Loaf had a sold-out show?

. . . I didn’t even know he was still alive.

Apparently Meat Loaf suffered a heart attack during a show at Wembley Stadium. He’s in hospital now (as they say over there).

What caught my eye is that the attack came while he was performing to a sold-out house – that’s a lot of people!

I had always pegged him for a one-hit wonder, care of Jim Steinman. I mean, I love “Bat out of Hell” – it’s one of those soundtrack-of-my-life sentimental kind of things – but I didn’t know he could draw crowds these days.

Wow. . . I think I’ll go home tonight, pull him out, dust him off, and crank him up!

I’ve always thought he was an excellent singer and all around nice guy.
How old is he, anyway?

I have never seen him live in concert but would jump at the chance to go. I’ve seen a few specials on DirectTV and VH1 and the guy seems to put on a really good show.

He’s 56 years old – I’m a little surprised at how young he is. He had surgery “to treat surgery Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome, a defect of the heart that causes an irregular heartbeat”, according to Reuters.

And you’re right - he has a wonderful voice.

To me, he will always be Eddie.

LOVE - HATE

I would pay to go see him in concert.

That’s one seat filled.

Meatloaf has played the villian in several movies that I can think of, Black Dog and Formula 51. He doesn’t seem to be nearly as overweight as he was back in Bat Out of Hell days.

He has released a lot of CDs since BOoH. I haven’t listened to all of them, but the Back into Hell or whatever his reunion with Steinman was called isn’t bad. I didn’t like it at first, but most of it grew on me to the point that I still listen to it, even though I don’t listen to BOoH any more.

I did a quick look at his filmography. It’s actually quite large. The one movie that many of you may have seen was Fight Club. He played Bob (Robert Paulsen, the big guy with man breasts). I’m pretty sure he was well padded for that role. He really does seem to have lost weight.

Holy shift. I just this morning had a premonition that he had died. No way to prove this, of course, but I now have the shivers. Man, I hope he’s gonna be OK.

I’ve been a fan since the first Bat Out Of Hell album and seen him in concert four times. He generally puts on a great show, although I caught a recent concert of his on cable one night not too long ago and thought he was not as into performing as he used to be. And he had lost a lot of weight, but judging from that concert footage, he’d recently gained a lot back.

For the record (no pun intended) the albums/CDs I know of are Bat Out Of Hell, Bad Attitude, Dead Ringer, Midnight at the Lost and Found, Welcome to the Neighborhood, Back Into Hell, and Couldn’t Have Said It Better. I know there are at least two more that I’ve only seen as imports, though I can’t remember the names.

Oh my gosh!
I had that too, all my life and got it fixed 6 years ago.
Its not exactly surgery, but a “procedure”.

I saw him in concert, back when his second album was released. He put on an INSANE show, back then… big giant guy, all OVER the damn stage, and had the entire back end of a CAR up there to perform “Paradise By The Dashboard Light” with Karla DeVito.

I mean, it was something to see. He was sweating buckets, and he moved like a man who didn’t KNOW he weighed more than eighty pounds or so…

Hope he’s okay.

One hit wonder? Where the hell have you been?

Meatloaf rocks! I love that guy. And has been said already, in concert he is awesome. He gives it his all and always has. Even when he was playing small time clubs.

Just to clarify, the incident was at London’s Wembley Areana, which is different to Webley stadium. The Arena holds (IIRC) somewhere around 14-16000 people.

It would be pretty difficult to play Wembley Stadium right now as they are in the process of knocking it down.

I’d jump at the chance to see Meatloaf in concert. The guys got an incredible voice. I may just have to go and pickup a cd or two when I’m out day after Thanksgiving shopping.

I saw him and Cindi Lauper this summer at the PNC Bank Art’s Center. It’s supposed to be his last tour. But I saw Cher with Cindi on Cher’s last tour then she had anouther tour so who knows if it is really his last

He was also in the Spice Girls’ movie.

“You know, I like those girls a lot, and I’d do anything for them. But I won’t do that.”

Hot Patootie, bless my soul…
