Media and ignorance

I was just thinking about how big a role the media plays in peoples lives - particularly T.V. in the lives of the young.

For some the role models and all their trappings are a choice - they have the means to buy the image or ignore it. For others - the poor, they have no choice - these images are iconic of an unreachable lifestyle.

So the twofold effect of T.V. and advertising is to delude people with empty ideals. Those who can afford to buy into these ideals, do so and are deluded. Those who can’t are oppressed.

Sure there is good, educational, entertaining T.V. programming, but it is very much in the minority. Shouldn’t we be thinking about removing ignorance through the use of T.V. rather than perpetuate it?

I would like to see puclicly owned channels that would show a variety of good programmes, without advertising. Perhaps opening peoples minds to the benefits of a healthy, spiritual lifestyle.

But what are the chances of that happening, eh?

Where do you live?

We have a public owned channel that shows a variety of good programs, without advertising. It’s called PBS.

I don’t think he missed that part of the broadcasting spectrum, DDG. His complaint was that it was in the minority.

Which are those, and why are they empty, again?
