OK, I live in Nevada, where the possession/cultivation of marijuana is legal for medical use if you have a written doctor’s recommendation.
I suffer from chronic back pain. I have run the gamut of anti-inflammatories, muscle relaxants and, oh, yeah, I’ve become addicted to Tramadol, which doesn’t really help the pain, but it does get me stoned enough not to mind it so much… I’m trying to wean myself off of it by cutting off a small piece of the tablet, larger one each day to gradually reduce the dosage until I can kick it altogether. Mj has been pretty well demonstrated to be safe and effective as a treatment for chronic pain.
I also suffer from severe depression. I’ve been prescribed Navane, Prozac and Zoloft, all of which worked for about four months, then stopped working altoghether. My depression actually got worse after that. (Not really sure if depression would be considered a legitimate medical use, but there is more than a little evidence that mj has value as an antidepressant).
About ninety-nine percent of employers in this state use pre-employment drug testing.
I’m kind of at the end of my rope here. The stuff the pharmaceutical companies make haven’t helped me, one of them has become an addiction problem, and they all have unpleasant side effects. I actually smoked mj recreationally for about 10 years, and during that time, even though I still had some problems with the back and the depression, they weren’t miss a lot of work/wonder how best to off myself severe. And if I didn’t have any, or chose to abstain for periods of time, I didn’t feel nauseous or have problems sleeping because of not having it.
I know it would be difficult to find a doctor who would give me the written recommend- most doctors tend to put politics above patient well being, and even though medical mj is legal in this state, it still isn’t widely recognized as a safe and effective medicine, science notwithstanding.
What I’m wondering is, in the unlikely event that I could actually find a doctor who would give me “the note”, would having a medical recommendation for mj cut any ice with prospective employers?
