Yeah, I’ll probably go to a real in-perosn doctor, when it’s convenient, so no worries on that score. I’m just curious about three somethings I’ve noticed. (That started out as something, then two somethings, as I thought of another, then went to three. Perhaps “Amongst my somethings are…” )
One. Migraines. In the last… oh, four years, I’ve had 5 or 6. Typically after not getting enough sleep, but sometimes not. Piercing pain along the path of the optic nerve on one side of the head only, sensitivity to light, mild nausea. Should I worry?
Two. Weird lung thing. Every couple of months, when breathing in, I get a tiny little jab of pain, which stops me from breathing in for sa second. Since this has been going on for years, however, I know how to deal with the symptom - I just exhale, then re-inhale slowly… and the pain is kind-of “pushed out” as I fully inflate the lungs, and then its gone. Bam. Should I worry?
Three. Two little fleshy lumps under the skin of my arm. Had them for years. No change in their condition. They’re just… odd. About as big around as a dime or nickel, they don’t cause any inconvenience, I just occasionally remember they’re there, and wonder what the deal is. One on the inside of the forearm halfway between wrist and elbow, the other on the backside of the upper arm, halfway between the elbow and shoulder. Neither is visible externally, save for the tiniest bulge in the skin. They almost feel like muscle knots, but they don’t go away. Should I worry?
Migraines, unlikely to be serious, mention it to your doc.
No idea, mention it at your next check-up.
Most likely Lipomas, which are benign fatty tumours, not usually removed unless causing discomfort or cosmetic problems. Show to your doc, just in case.
Pretty sure you’re fine, but go and ask a real life doctor, in person.
I intend to. It just takes a lot of mental effort to get myself to go to a physician. I was primarily wondering if any of these things are “alarm bells” which mean “Go. Go Now.”
Migraines, millions live with them, mention it to your doc.
Not lung pain, muscle pain between ribs. Lungs largely insensitive to pain so that cancer sufferers sometimes cough up lung chunks before they feel anything.
After Googling Lipomas - yeah, that seems the likely cause. Seems to be a problem for a dermatologist to check out… that’s good. I did see a dermatologist last year. Of course, he wasn’t much help at the time, and I didn’t think to mention these at the time.
So what about the other two - what flavor of doctor is recommended? Just a GP?
I had a similar lung problem and my doctor said it was due to one irritated layer of your lung brushing against another layer of lung. Harmless, but annoying.
Those lumps could also be cysts and not lipomas. Google “cysts” too, but either way, they are harmless. I have one on my inner right upper thigh for years. However, you should see a doctor, and should begin to see one on a regular basis. If you don’t have one, check around for either a general practitioner, a family physician, or an internist. Personally, I recommend an internist, and my doctor is an internist. If you need a specialist, either one of those will refer you to the proper specialist.
