I signed up for Medicare back in September of 2021 when I turned 65. I have been making my payments via Easy pay through my checking account. I just received a letter from Social Security letting me know that my SS payments will start next month and it shows the Medicare payments will be deducted from my SS payment. I have checked both the Medicare and Social Security sites to see if I need to stop Easy pay or if it stops automatically. The Medicare site says payments will be made automatically from my SS check, nothing else. The SS site says it will take up to 4 weeks to stop Easy pay if I stop Easy pay but I can’t find a way to stop Easy pay. Neither site is clear on this and Google shows the same thing as the websites. Does anyone have an answer for this?
From healthline dot com:
Can I stop Medicare Easy Pay?
Easy Pay can be stopped at any time, but you do need to plan ahead.
To stop Easy Pay, complete and send in a new Authorization Agreement for Preauthorized Payment form with the changes you want made.
I haven’t looked at the form, but I would expect it to have an effective date on it. If it were me, I would go ahead and cancel it.
Called Social Security this morning. The Easy pay stopped when I was fully confirmed I would receive SS. It was in the small print when I set up the Easy pay when I signed up for Medicare.
