Is there any correlation? I ask because recently I was told by a friend that to help medicine work faster, you should take it with a full glass of water. This makes sense, but I was wondering if any of you guys could provide a cite.
I can’t answer your question - but when I was young mom wouldn’t allow us to take water with liquid medicine. Pills - sure you had to take a full glass of water, but liquid medicine, no. I have often wondered if it really make a difference.
Most pills are designed to break down and release their active ingredients in water, especially water mixed with acidic stomach contents. Most liquid medicines are designed to disperse in water, which makes for more rapid absorption too. Therefore it makes a lot of sense to take the meds with water. Water is also helpful in facilitating the medicine’s entry into the stomach, rather than letting it get hung up in the esophagus.
No cite handy, just recalling what I was taught in pharmacology back in med school (longer ago than I care to admit, lately).
