It’s always best to go out on top while you’re young enough to enjoy it.
I think it’s best to go out when YOU want to go out. We always have an opinion as to how people should live their lives, but they are presumptuous and shouldn’t matter.
If I were an athlete, I’d want to go out before the injuries piled up too much. That’s all I meant. 
Debilitating injuries aren’t as much a concern in soccer compared to American football or boxing.
My best Rapinoe memory was the game tying assist to Abby Wambach in the 2011 WC against Brazil. That and the 2012 Olympics were probably her at her best (her ballon d’Or win, IMO was unwarranted). Probably the ~4th or 5th most consequential American woman’s player of the 2000s? Heck of a career.
Yeah, her big mistake was trying to play right tackle for the Rams. Her retirement from American football was predictable.
