Mel Gibson and the Mayans?

Did Mel Gibson capitalize on all this hype of this faux-Western interpretation of the Mayan calendar’s prediction that the world will end on 12/21/2012? Supposedly, he made some movie based on this idea popularized in recent novels. I know Uncle Cecil answered a factual question on the Mayan calendar, but what do the SD Cafe folk know about Gibson’s movie? Maybe it’ll mark the end of his career…

Don’t think so.

My daughter made me watch this just last week. It was really pretty enjoyable, if deus ex machina doesn’t bother you. It also had subtitles, but that didn’t suck half as much as I thought it would. Plus, the lead role was played by an exceedingly lovely young man in a loincloth.

Do you mean Apocolypto, or something else? Apocolypto takes place in the past, not 2012.

You do realize this movie’s been out for over a year, don’t you?

Jinx doesn’t exactly have his finger on the pulse of the world around him.

Just imagine when he discovers The Beatles and rushes to the SDMB to ask if anyone’s heard of these four guys from Kidneypond, or something like that, in Scotland.

Band name!

Not “Mayans,” it’s just “Maya.” Mayan refers to the language only.
