Melancholia/Gone With The Wind similarities

Did anyone else think Melancholia by Lars von Trier was kinda like a modern Gone With The Wind? I mean the plot is totally different, but the musical interludes, the fact it was set mostly in a mansion/on an estate, and the aristocratic/wedding drama reminded me a lot of Gone With The Wind. Dunst was kinda like the “Scarlett” of the movie - the strong woman who was kind of cold hearted and manipulative but kept everything together.

Anyway, I really liked Melancholia but found Gone With The Wind sort of overrated and boring. What do you think?

I also liked Melancholia and don’t much care for Gone with the Wind, but I’m not seeing it in terms of parallels.

What do you mean???

Didn’t you notice the part where Vivian Leigh ran off on her wedding night and had sex with another guy?

And how could you forget the part where a giant asteroid crushes Tara?

Of course, the infamous comet 1864 Sherman-Damnyankees. :stuck_out_tongue:

No, Tara was shot by Warren Mears.
