Melanoma statistics?

I did some snooping around, but didn’t come up with any hard *facts.

I’ve always heard that in the racial spectrum, that risk for melanoma is inversely proportional to skin color.

However, I haven’t found any actual numbers showing the frequencies. So, anyone else have any statistics?

*The one fact I did find was this: Of the four major types of melanomas, one of them is rare in Caucasians (2-8% of all cases) and common in Hispanics and Blacks (35-60%).

Try this link. It gives some information, a bibliography, and it is from a department within Columbia University, so it is from a reasonably reputable source.

One thing is, in the US, health statistics are not reported by race unless it’s a mortality issue. When charts are coded for data capture, race is not included. (Race is on the death certificate, however.)
