Melting Lead Into Conical Copper Chiminea Cap

Any reason you can’t just epoxy a brick up under there, or the lead weight?

Or for that matter, just epoxy the cap to the chiminea?

The cap needs taken off during use, right?

Correct.

All good suggestions folks.

I decided to hang a brick from the underside of the cap using thin stainless steel cable per moes_lotion’s suggestion. Seems much easier to implement and should work much better than what I initially had in mind.

I do appreciate everyone’s input!

Let us know how it works, especially after the next windy day. Also, does this solution let you take the cap off and hang it on the side of the chimenea with the cable and brick still in the chimenea while in use, or does the brick obstruct too much of the inside diameter?

Just finished today and I’m happy with it.

I drilled a hole in the center of the peak and installed an eye hook with washers and nuts. Covered the nut on the outside with Sugru to waterproof the top.
Drilled a hole in the brick and made a loop of cable to hold the brick.

I tried the cable but the brick hung way too low, so I ditched the cable and hung the brick with snap hooks. The brick hangs about 8 inches below the cap.
I’m pretty sure that the cap would stay on in a tornado!

As the cap is made with thinish copper, I didn’t want to subject it to side stresses by letting it hang on the outside.

Excellent suggestion and my thanks. This is way better than my idea.
