I love moral conundrums and masterful persuasion used in any media and I find myself awed by a writer that can make me agree with both sides at the same time. While I can only dream of doing them justice I’ve listed a few and would love to hear about others.
Chasing Amy - the scene after the hockey game when Holden confronts Alyssa about her past. He essentially calls her a slut and says her past destroys his ability to form a relationship with her, she says they were mistakes she made, they are in the past, and they are none of his business. When I first saw that movie I was behind Holden all the way, and now I agree with Alyssa completely.
A Canticle for Leibowitz - in the middle chapter “Fiat Lux”, Abbot Dom Paulo and The Poet argue about the value of faith and the wisdom of technology. I will mangle the nuance and the context if I get into it, suffice it to say, as an Atheist I believed at the time that Dom Paulo got the closest to making me believe in a god and considering where technology got them before I don’t know if I agreed with The Poet completely either.
I had a few more in mind when I started this but am now drawing a blank…
