Memorable Short Films

Kenneth Anger’s Scorpio Rising (1963) is memorable not just for being simultaneously being sued by the Lutheran Church and The American Nazi Party or for triggering an obscenity conviction for a theater owner in California (overturned by the CA Supreme Court), but in my mind most importantly for spending half its $16,000 budget just to secure the usage rights to Bobby Vinton’s “Blue Velvet”. Worth. Every. Penny.
