Memphis Eats

Thanks to everybody who gave us advice on our trip to Memphis.

We were only able to sample Corky’s, Rendezvous, and Elvis Presley’s restaurant, of the ones recommended.
Our schedule didn’t permit us to sample as many as we planned and wanted to.

Corky’s dry ribs were the best ribs I have ever had. Absolutely heavenly. This trip was the first time I’d ever had dry ribs.

Rendezvous was a disappointment because the restaurant smelled really funny - kind of like spoiled milk. That interfered with our enjoyment of the food. That and our waiter lied to us about the availability of forks. When we asked for fork, he claimed they didn’t have forks, even though at the waiters stand not 10 feet from our table was a bin of plastic forks. Alas!

At Elvis Presley’s Memphis Restaurant on Beale we had lunch, and ordered the fried pickles. We’d never had them before. They were sour salty fatty and crunchy. I didn;t like them at first, but after a few they really start to grow on you. And make you super thirsty!

Thanks to everyone for the recommendations.
It made our trip much better to already know where the good food was. Much appreciated!!!

I guess it sucks to be Charlie Vergos sometimes. I’m so glad you like Corky’s, though. Yes, it does rock, and consistently. And about Elvis Presley’s place…at least you can say you went. Didja get to stop by Graceland? It’s a sight worth seeing before death. Speaking of, did you visit any cemeteries as Rushgeek suggested?

I’m pretty sure he wasn’t lying to you – he was messing with you. That’s the type of thing the Rendevous waiters do.
