What Would You Do With One Night In Memphis

It looks like I’m going to be going to Memphis, Tennessee in about a month to do some work on-site for one of our clients. I love traveling and seeing new places, and I’ve never been to Memphis. It looks like I’ll be there for only one night. What would you recommend I do? Yes, I know about Elvis and Graceland, but I think I’ll save that for another trip.

If you want to eat the best ribs in the world, go to Blues Alley. I mean this is the absolute best. I have not been there in years but hopefully it is still there.
Also The Rendezvous is a great place for ribs.
Overton Square is kind of nice.

I’ve been in Memphis once in my life and it was not alltogether a pleasent experience. I’d use that night to drive out of the city.

Rendezvous is more for the atmosphere than the ribs, depending on what kind of ribs you like. Stop by The Peabody, and say 'ello to the ducks in their fountain. Wander down Beale Street, and stop at A. Schwab’s: marvel at belts so big, they’d go around me, and my Mom, and my Dad, and my Sister, and my Brother-In-Law, and my SO, and my cat, and my… you ge the picture. (They also have lots of tacky touristy stuff for cheap.)

Do you know if you’ll be in the downtown area, or off towards Germantown, etc.? That’ll make it easier to reccomend stuff: I don’t want to suggest things that are on opposite sides of the city.

<< You telling me I’m off-topic is off-topic! >>

FLEE!!!

I’d go walking ten feet off of Beale.

And yes, I really do feel the way I feel.

Well, I’d visit Sophie, of course. What else could one possibly do?

What would I do?
::sigh::
Same damn thing I do every night. Sit in front of this damned computer.
::sigh::
Seriously, you’re right to skip Graceland. Head straight to Beale Street. Then come by my apartment and choose your very own kitten to take home.
You can check out the Memphis Flyer online if you want to find out who is playing where. There is always something going on around here.

I wrote down where the client is, but forgot to take the note with me. I’ll get back to you folks tonight. I’ve also got a co-worker going out earlier, so I’ll pass this information on to her.

Fleeing’s out. It’s a client, and it’s my choice to go there to make sure the help system we’re building gets installed correctly. Besides, my last out-of-state assignment for this company was Weirton, West Virginia.

Go see the Dempseys!!! Go see the Dempseys!!! Go see the Dempseys!!! Go see the Dempseys!!! Go see the Dempseys!!! Go see the Dempseys!!!

Did I mention the dempseys? They play pretty regularly at Elvis Presley’s restaurant. They are one of the best bands I have ever witnessed. Incredibly fun stage show! My wife and I almost tried to hire them for our wedding. Fun Fun FUN!

Well, I mean…yeah. 'Cause Sophie’s just…yeah.

Go visit my mom and sister, head to Leonard’s for some REAL barbecue,
maybe visit a few of my old haunts from back in my school days. That’s what I would do. If I had to recommend something for someone else to do, I’d be at a loss.

Stay away from Graceland, and go to Beale Street. Head to Dick’s and be prepared to get abused by the waitrons.

OK. Beale Street’s on the list. I’ve got no idea where I’ll be staying yet, but the client is near Overton Park and Rhodes college. I’ve also got a colleague who’ll be going out on Tuesday, so I’ll pass this information on.

Thanks again,
CJ

Geo & Shibb, you obviously know what’s good for you.

The area that your client is staying in is a nice one. The Memphis zoo is not to be avoided and is a few steps away from that spot. But with only one night in Memphis? Sheesh.

If I’d never been here and I only had one evening, I’d have to visit Beale Street.

Dinner? Duh. I’m not having the great barbeque debate, but Corky’s is obviously the best in the city.

I’d see the bright lights of Memphis.
And the Commodore Hotel.

And underneath the streetlamp, I’d meet a silver belle.

Sophie:

What’s Beale Street?

Actually, it’s “Southern belle”

For an extra $500, could I upgrade to one night in Bangkok?
