matt_mcl:
but I simply must bump this thread.
I found a lump on my right testicle. My question is: What do I do know? I don’t have a regular doctor, and it doesn’t seem like something to go to Urgent Care for, so where should I go to get it checked out?
Question #2: I am engaged to be married in October. Should I tell my fiancee’ about this? It could turn out to be nothing and I don’t want to worry her unnecessarily, especially since her dad has cancer and is fighting it right now. I’m in kind of a pickle, and I’d like some advice.
ChiefWahoo, i have found doctors through 1-800-doctors before. The yellow pages can also work. Also some locations have ambulatory care clinics. See a doctor soon!
A good friend of mine got in a bar fight when he was about 22 and in the course of the melee, he got kicked in the jewels. Apparently, they continued to ache after a week so he finally went to the doctor. Turns out he had testicular cancer and never knew it. He had one removed (I don’t know if it was left or right) but if I recall, he’s fine and has had no recurrence in the 10 years since.
I’m not sure if this makes me more or less susceptible, or if it even has any baring at all, but I have a condition called vericocele. It’s a condition where you have vericose veins in the testicular sack. Apparently, this is fairly common as well, though almost always around the left testicle. Outwardly, there is no indication so it’s not like you’d see some bulging mass of veiny-lumps (nice, huh?), but it does make checking for lumps pretty difficult. No loss in performance or reduced sperm count, but the potential is there since the extra blood draws extra heat and heat is bad for the swimmers.
More information than most know, but it seems to be for a good cause, so…
You should call up a hospital that has clinics. Make an appointment with an Urologist. They only remove the lump, and have it biopsied. You will miss work for about two or three weeks for healing. They don’t do anything else, unless it’s a malignant cancer. Go see the doctor,if you discharge blood, lump or no lump.
Fifteen years ago, I felt like someone had kicked me in the nuts. I found a lump, and went to the doctor. Within a week I had a half inch lump of bone removed. It was not cancerous. I didn’t check for lumps until I started feeling the pain. One week of dealing with that feeling was enough.
Try to do the examine in a privite area, not the locker room at the local gym. The itching is bad when the hair starts growing back. How do you women shave around there?
I’m 35. In 6 more years I won’t have to worry about testicular cancer at all, 'cause I’ll be over 40. Woo hoo!
Thanks to this thread, I’m going to check out Mr. Granola.
This is just sooooooo important, so if you have any questions, see this website: http://www.acor.org/diseases/TC/index.html
Carefully
I know that I’ve bumped this thread a few times, but I think that it’s time to bump it again: Bump
Because of Frannie’s bump, I’m sitting at my computer feeling my 'nads! Is that weird, or what?
FTR: everything feels OK, but I’m giving myself a stiffie…
I was checking for this when I ended up doing something that lead to one of my most talked about threads
I didn’t say it a year-and-ahlaf ago, Frannie, but thank you for getting this out there.
It’s really strange that you (royal you) never hear anything about this. Breast cancer is mentioned all the time, but I can’t remember the last time I’ve heard about testicular cancer from a mainstream news source.
Ha! Now I have a goodreason to sit at the computer grabbing my balls.
