So my kid and I have been playing this for a couple of weeks on the Wii (naturally, the kid is several levels ahead of me), and in addition to unlocking levels and unlocking party games, the game occasionally announces that you have unlocked a new skin.
But it doesn’t tell you how to apply it (or whatever you do with a new skin). Nothing in the manual, which is skinny (ETA: no pun intended).
I went online looking for the answer, and all I found was the same question. Unanswered, in one case, and answered rather vaguely in another (and that solution didn’t work).
Can any dopers help?
A side question: there are a couple of party games that, if you look at the manual, it seems like they can be played in dual-player mode. One of them (Paint) implies rather heavily that that’s the BEST way to play. But again, we can’t figure out how to do anything but single-player mode.
There’s not much there yet, but you could check in on this GameFAQs page in the coming days to see if someone posts the info you’re looking for. Meanwhile, what do you think of the game? I’m a puzzle fan myself, so I was thinking of getting this.
It’s a lot of fun, so far it’s my favorite of the “Monkeyball” or “Marble Madness” genre of games. Most of the levels do well at being challenging, but not frustrating. Many levels inspire genuine problem solving and maze solving instead of just being a dexterity exercise. It has two additional variables that rise it above the other maze games:
Your “character” is a blob that can be split into multiple blobs that are often necessary to solve a puzzle.
Your blob has color, and you can mix different sub-blobs to form new blobs of mixed colors (e.g. mix a green and red blob to get that yellow blob that you need). It also has a side benefit of teaching color mixing theory and application
It’s a lot of fun, and there are many levels. (Some of the levels have resulted in frustration for the kid, who’s 12. In general, he’s better at it than I am, but occasionally I solve one he can’t do.) They’ve done a good job of having a lot of variety and creativity. For instance, in one level, you have to take your mercury blob, run it over a square that freezes it into a marble, then roll it down two wires to merge with another blob, in order to solve the level.
So far, for $20, it’s been the second most successful Wii game and the cheapest. Although I do wish we could figure out how to do a multiplayer mode, because going through it level by level competitively involves a very cumbersome route back to the main menu every time we change players.
The game’s been out long enough that you may not get much help from the FAQ section of Gamefaqs. They do have a message board where you can ask for some help. The level of discourse ain’t the highest, but someone may be able to help you. A quick glance found this for the skins: “Hit plus (I think) during the game, it’s under Options.”
