Mermaid's Necklace - the Movie "Splash"

I’ve been completely in love with Madison the mermaid’s necklace, featured prominently in the 1984 movie Splash, for many years.

First, does anybody know if anyone has made a decent replica and where I could buy it?

Or, does a good photo of the necklace exist so I could maybe copy it and put one together?

I’ve tried Google and Wikipedia and no luck.

Thanks in advance,
Creaky

I love that movie and necklace too. I had no idea it was so difficult to find a good picture of it online!

This is the only decent one I found and it’s still not any good!

Oh, I found this - can you get a screen capture? There’s a pretty good shot of the necklace around 1 minute in.

Glory, thank you! Yes, I think I can freeze that pic from the YouTube video and try and reproduce the necklace from the still.

Thank you so much!!

Can you put the still up here?

Guess I wasn’t looking at the necklace when I saw that movie. It is nice, though. I like when a movie has little props that aren’t strictly necessary for the plot, but add details to the world created by the story.

It’s actually pretty important to the plot. She sells the necklace to buy him the mermaid statue from the park.

“It’s so … big!”

Bocce Balls!!!

Mr. Mango on my shoulder…

God I love that movie.

I’m not sure I know how to freeze the shot and save it as a frozen image and post it. I’m pretty untechnological!

It’s good to have a fairly decent shot of it, though. I’m already starting to shop around for the necklace components.

The Youtube video won’t give a good enough screenshot to work from. My advice is that you rent the DVD and pause at the right moment to get a good look.

Also you could use software such as PowerDVD to create a screenshot from the DVD on your computer.

Could you pause the video at the right part and hit Print Screen to take a screenshot? You could crop it in Photoshop, since there would be a lot of extraneous bits around what you want to see.

I can’t remember if something pops up on the video player screen when you hit pause on YouTube. If it doesn’t, then Prt Scr follies ahoy.

A more detailed image:

Image is safe for work, but Darryl Hannah really distracts one from the necklace…
Excuse me, I’ll be in my bunk…

I’ll be back! I’ll be back with nuclear weapons!

Miss Purl, that’s a good idea and I’ll try it. Thanks!!

Also, Gigo, that’s a good image too. I really want to make this necklace and you all are being really wonderful to help me!

awldune, I don’t have a DVD player or a TV that’s compatible with one, but I have friends who do, so perhaps they’d indulge me.

I just got my Fire Mountain Gems and Beads catalogue supplement last week and am expecting the big catalogue soon. I know they have lots of great and nicely priced components in there that would make a great mermaid necklace.

As for the big ole gold coin as the focal point, I have some neat old large foreign coins that my great aunts brought back from their youthful travels abroad in the 1930s. I’m hoping maybe I can get my dad to drill some holes in one of the coins so I can attach it as shown in the pic. If I can actually make this, I’ll post a pic of the finished piece!

Again, thank you!!
