Merry Rantmas! (December Mini-rants)

I am, in fact, kinda whacky. She knows too well. I had reacted before I knew it. But, I have to say, I didn’t scream or curse or call her names. That’s not my style. She said the look on my face was pure ‘fear’. I am not sure about that, what I felt was shock and surprise. And I left the room. Later I was calm enough to talk to her about it. We are okay. I see now it’s not the worst thing in the world. And my problem with it was probably my very own hair issues. Like I said, we are fine.

Ok, another one, I need to be in bed, but ,no, it can’t be. Dr. Who marathon is on. I have had the TV on it since yesterday (er, Saturday). Instead of sugarplums Dr. Who is dancing in my head. I won’t sleep at all. Why do I have to be such a geek? OCD! Enough?

Mother dear: those hearing aids I paid for? They’re for wearing, not for decorating your bedside table. Not wearing them when I’ve got pharingitis is particularly imbecilic.

Maybe those who haven’t spent their whole childhood “taking care of Mommy” and who weren’t expected to go to nursing school so they’d better be able to take care of mommy…

I hate it when people say something isn’t “mutually exclusive.” Shut the fuck up.

Henna was the big hair thing when I was in college, particularly the red kind. People couldn’t see it unless you were directly under an indoor light or outside in the sunlight, and even then the effect depended entirely on your natural hair color. I had natural auburn highlights so the henna amplified them. When I came home for vacation, my mother’s reaction was similar to Beckdawrek’s.

It probably was a blessing that I wasn’t into the punk movement or else I would’ve given her a heart attack. And yes, I was not only her baby, but I was her only child. I almost wasn’t allowed to live in the dorms, but that’s another story.

Y’know, shutting up and shutting the fuck up aren’t mutually exclusive… :~}

And, I suppose someone should say “Merry Christmas!”

(though we opened presents on Saturday, so today is Star Wars and New Ramen Restaurant Day)

I hope Santa took a giant, stinky, egg-noggy dump down your chimney.

Merry Christmas!

Merry, merry, merry y’all!

I was typing my rant when my phone went stupid, so new rant. Type what I’m typing, phone!

We went to see a movie yesterday, we always do on Christmas. My guy is super-organized about some things, so of course he’d bought the tickets a few weeks(!) ahead of time, picking out the absolute best seats in the house. (Why that row is ‘the best’ I dunno – I’ve learned to simply nod and agree on certain topics.)

Naturally we always leave plenty early to insure we are in our seats before the very first coming attraction regardless of what en route delays might arise. Since there was about seven inches of fresh snow that day, the departure time hubby assigned was even earlier than usual.

The result was we walked into the theater a full 45 minutes before the show was scheduled to start.

There were only TWO other people who’d arrived before us.

They were sitting in our assigned seats.

(Yes, they moved. Grudgingly.)

Earlier this year the city took down some trees at the end of my street. They were damaged in a storm so they needed to come down, it wasn’t just some arbitrary thing. But they were pretty in the spring and apparently those trees were serving as some sort of windbreak.

We got about five inches of snow on Sunday and then the winds really kicked up yesterday. When I was coming home yesterday I just about got stuck at the end of my street because the street had nearly drifted shut! That’s never happened before in the time I’ve lived here and the only thing I can think of is it’s because they took those trees out. There’s nothing but an empty field there now. I hope they re-plant soon.

My Outlook email is being a butt today. I tried to Reply to an email a friend sent me, and all Outlook gives me back is a blank screen. Still happening despite multiple attempts at replying.

I have no rants left in me. I am just to effing lazy to care. The day after Christmas, bah, humbug!

In defense of Mom, as a hearing aid user it feels good to take a break. I wear mine all day at work and anytime I’m around strangers. When I am at home I remove mine and let my ear canal breathe.

Seriously, take a lime bean and whittle it down until it tightly plugs your ear canal. Wear it continuously for 8-10 hours. See what a relief it is to remove it for a bit.

I hated the first pair of hearing aids I got. I took them out as soon as I got home. The pair I have now, I wear all the time even when I’m home alone. They’re like shoes–they have to fit right, be comfortable, and do the job.

Take mom back to the audiologist and see what can be done. Millions of people wear them comfortably and happily. No reason mom can’t be one of these satisfied customers.

Ah but she claims they’re comfortable. She’s been known to fall asleep with them on.

She says she doesn’t want to spend the batteries.

:smack:

I am familiar with this line of thinking. My mother used to pull up to a traffic light to make a left turn, but she wouldn’t turn on the blinker until the light changed and she could actually turn because she didn’t want to use up the turn signal bulb. The people behind her did not thank her.

I buy these batteries from amazon-- 60 at a time for ~$17.00. That’s 3 cents each or 6 cents for the pair. I used to buy them in the store, but half would be DOA. Never gotten a dead one in this brand. My audiologist recommends these batteries.

My son had pink hair when I saw him at Thanksgiving. I thought it was beautiful.

I always wanted pink hair like Frenchy had in Grease. Only now I’m too lazy to dye my hair or keep it up.

Actually, I’ve finally realized what bothers me.

She only keeps them off when she’s alone.

Or when I’m the other person in the house.

Because I’m still not, and never, a human being to her. I’m an extension.

ThelmaLou, my mother in law used to do the same thing, back when she was still driving. I always wanted to ask her if kept her headlights off at night to keep from burning them out, since they’re a lot more expensive to replace than a turn signal bulb. :smack:

As for HA batteries, I’ve always been able to get them free or very cheap from my audiologist. Maybe check and see if that is an option.
