Metallica/Lou Reed collaboration album. Huh?

This doesn’t sound like a very good match. Lou Reed has kind of had a horrible voice for many years. Here’s an example for you Metallica and Lou Reed Perform "Sweet Jane" - Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th Anniversary shows - YouTube

Not really seeing the WHY behind this. Any ideas? Anyone interested in this?

It’s certainly interesting idea. I’m looking forward to the single.

I got a kick from some of the comments from the young’uns in that youtube link. By all means Lou Reed especially in his old age, is a terrible singer but his influence on modern rock (yes, even metal) is pretty significant.

I have no idea where this will go, and I have no interest in Metallica, but I am curious.

I think his collaboration with Anthony Hegarty is damn amazing. http://youtu.be/argcAmiILtQ

Metallica Machine Music?

Here’s a link, with a song from their new album.

My wife’s playing this for my son, a Metallica fan, right now. Just finished. His response? “Eh.”

His voice doesn’t seem to fit with the music. Maybe it has to grow on you.

ETA: The album will be released Oct. 31 worldwide, Nov. 1 in the U.S.

Note to self: Search first, then start thread.

I said on my facebook status the other day that I think this will do for Metallica’s musical reputation what Mike Tyson’s tattoos did for his face. Nothing I’ve heard since has changed my mind. I used to love Metallica and I like Death Magnetic. I thought they were on the way back to relevance… I was wrong.

Yeah. I don’t see this working out well.

The sample song really is the worst of both worlds. While I’ve never been a Metallica fan, I have to say their music sounds so much better with James Hetfield singing. And Lou Reed, who I usually like, sounds much better singing Lou Reed songs.

Yeah, that was not good.

Dear James, Kirk and Lars:

You know, there's a REASON even Perry Como has hit the top 40 more recently than Lou Reed...

I wonder why Lou Reed would want to work with craptacular artists like Metallica

Sounds more like he’s rapping than singing. I don’t see it burning up the charts any time soon.

Stepping right past your POV of Metallica (I disagree), it’s because it’s win/win. Lou gets to look cool; and the M Boys burnish the artistic cred. As a business/ brand mgmt move it’s pretty smart.

I find Reed’s voice so atonal that, coupled with his basic pose in interviews, I don’t feel the need to work as hard as he thinks his art merits.

Merged threads.

Holy crap, that’s even worse than I thought it would be.

Not sure what I think of “The View”. I actually think Lou sounds better than most people seem to think he does. I read the lyrics to a couple of songs on the website, and… wow. I think I’ll have to listen to it all the way through, but I’m not sure if I’ll end up buying it.

Sounds pretty bad. Sounds like Lou is doing an impression of Johnny Cash.

Take the passion and cadence of an early '90’s PSA-type “rap” song, get a Johnny Cash impersonator for the vocals, and slap it on top of some totally unrelated metal.

Who the heck thinks Metallica are cool? Lou Reed’s cool rep is already assured in history.

This is like if Tom Waits worked with Green Day for cool points.
