Seeing my reading speed, any ideas on any ways to test that?
you need following tools to be beginning:
a. 1 piece MS Word.
b. 1 piece 2 eyes.
c. 1 piece pen and paper.
d. 1 piece O. Henry short story.
e. 1 piece timer/stopwatch.
Procedure:
open nice story in MS Word. Go to Tools/Word Count. Use pen/paper to note down number of words in document. Start timer/stopwatch. Start reading. When finish story, Stop timer/stopwatch. Calculate Total Words / Total Time in Minutes. This be your WPM read speed. To make calculations simpler, read for one minute. To avoid skewed results, don’t read familiar stories.
Report WPM here so we make fun of you.
now you tells me how to improve my englishes.
(on second thoughts, having read your sig, i’ll learn elsewhere
)
Yes, Clayton, Google “test reading speed” and pick one.
Read an unfamiliar story as quickly as you can while still catching everything and afterwards, write down a synopsis. Then read another of similar length, skimming over the boring stuff. Average the two numbers and you’d get a fairly decent real-life-condition reading speed.
– who reads pretty fast himself, but still took almost a week and a half to get through the 1000+ pages of James Clavell’s Shogun.
