Mexico Visa?

I’d like to travel to Mexico in December on vacation.

Do I need a visa to travel to Mexico? I am an Indian national with an Indian passport currently in the US (California). If Yes, what paperwork do I need?

The Mexico Consulate phone numbers have been extremely unhelpful in answering this basic question.

Thanks!

As a US citizen, I’ve found that the best source for foreign travel information and visa regulations and whatnot is the US Dept of State website. Perhaps you could try the site for the equivalent Indian office.

Source: Mexican Embassy Web Site

The above link lists Consulates all across the US.

Wow, that took some serious google fu! I think you may have to contact the Mexican embassy in India. Some visa applications force you to apply in person. It claims to take about a month, so you may have to pay for an expedited service.

The US embassy says:

Are you flying or driving? If you’re driving, you’ll probably need to take the title to your car, too. And Mexican insurance. You can get info. on that from AAA. In fact, they might be able to answer your visa questions, too (tho, not positive about that if you’re not an American citizen.)

You’re going to need a Mexican visitor visa.

If you’ve got a valid U.S. visa in your Indian passport, you should be able to get a Mexican visitor visa from the consulate in your jurisdiction. They’ll probably ask you for proof of financial support, your air travel itinerary, your destination in Mexico, and a notarized affidavit from the person(s) you’re staying with that they’ll put you up. I forget the other requirements. They can get pretty persnickety.

My family went to Mexico eight months ago; I and my son are U.S. citizens and thus didn’t need visas, but my wife and daughter have foreign passports and had to jump through all the hoops to get visitor visas.
