Coincidentally, a clerk from Ingham County (mostly Lansing) is explaining the law right now.
What is the proscribed penalty for a board that does not certify the results? IS there a penalty if they don’t certify? Is the whole board held responsible or just the ones who voted to deny?
ETA: I liked Barb Byrum… she was no-nonsense and stayed on point.
Trump has never cared about norms or laws going back decades. Everybody in NYC who worked with him knows that. A leopard can’t change his spots. Heard of a friend of a friend who did construction work for Trump and he refused to pay. Told them to sue him. Never got paid. And guess who the guy voted for both times - Trump.
Rejecting reality is one thing; using naked power to impose one’s version of reality is quite another. It’s nothing short of an attempt at mass disenfranchisement.

I’ll note that during the last session of public comments and questions, Commissioner Barney Shinkle Fife wondered if Detroit Clerk Janice WInfrey had been summoned to the hearing. I’ll also note that they are not a court, and have no authority to issue a summons. These aren’t witnesses, ffs. She was invited to speak, but others spoke on behalf of Detroit.
Also note, the city of Detroit’s clerk is the only clerk he inquired about. I wonder what it is about Detroit that Republicans have a boner for…?
Frum himself has not abandoned conservatism. Does this mean he is rejecting democracy?
Oh goodie, Laura Cox, wife of former MIchigan AG Mike Cox (yes, saying that name out loud will get you sent to the principal’s office for most middle schoolers) doesn’t understand Michigan law either.
Re: Laura Cox
Are you fucking kidding me? Another Republican whining about how unfair everything is? Has there ever been a thing that was fair to Republicans but they lost?
Call of the modern republican:
“Not faaaiirrr. NOT FAAAAIIRRRRR!”
Collapses into whining heap
Laura Cox, you twit, “we” can’t request an audit UNTIL THEY CERTIFY.
I don’t think this Charlie Spies guy knows the law very well.
Sounds like he got his talking points from the Cox family.
The trumpists whole strategy relies on not knowing the law very well.
“Laws? Where we’re going there are no laws…”
I suspect they know the law well enough. They’re relying on the public not knowing the law and so further contributing to the conspiracy theory.
“Call it whatever you want, so the law doesn’t apply”… direct quote.
ETA: “Perhaps Senator Joe Lieberman” should conduct the “review” (not audit!!) of Wayne County results.
At least Van Langevelde seems to be standing up to the bullshit… hopefully his nerve holds.
Van Langevelde smacking down John James’ representative.
Man this Charles Spies guy reminds me of Kevin Malone, in looks, manner and intellect.
