The Republican Party has abandoned conservatism (which I, idiosyncratically, apparently, define as excluding radicalism).

These Republicans keep talking about 70% of Detroit precincts being “out of balance.” This is a lie. The truth: 72% are BALANCED.
Absentee ballots are still unbalanced, but overall it may mean a few hundred votes. This may be where the Republicans are getting their 70% number, but, again, to say 70% of precincts are unbalanced in Detroit is a lie:
That means 70 percent of absentee precincts were unbalanced, a level that was roughly the same as in the August primary, when canvassers certified the election but implored Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson to add resources for the November election to prevent a similar occurrence.
The lack of progress prompted two Republican canvassers in Wayne County last week to unsuccessfully try to rescind their votes to certify.
How many votes are at issue?
It’s not entirely clear, but likely about 400.
Sorry to post again, but to clarify: These Republicans (Spies, Cox, now it seems Monica Palmer) are asking for a delay in certification of almost five and a half million votes because of about 400 out-of-balance votes in Detroit.
I’m starting to think the Republicans aren’t on the level.
Notice the shift from whether the vote is balanced to “People threatened us so we can’t really say this was a valid election.”
So does Shinkle think the Republicans are the only ones getting threatened? Or are their threats the only ones that are relevant to this board meeting?
Fuck a duck, I’m done watching this.
Yep, just keep muddying the waters with lies, conspiracy theories.
Fuck a duck
Suck an elf.
That’s a favorite phrase of these trolls.
Yes, that’s Ed O’Neill at front & center.
What does “unbalanced” mean in this case?
It means the total number of votes counted doesn’t match the total number of ballots issued.
So you counted all the votes and got 100 total votes but maybe you have 99 total in-person and absentee ballots.
Article on WaPo says there were more errors in Michigan in 2016 when trump won the state by a small margin and he didn’t complain then.
Sorry to post again, but to clarify: These Republicans (Spies, Cox, now it seems Monica Palmer) are asking for a delay in certification of almost five and a half million votes because of about 400 out-of-balance votes in Detroit.
I wish this would be emphasized by someone at this hearing. Nobody has made this point that I have heard.
IMO kudos to Chairwoman Bradshaw for doing a bang-up job of running this meeting.
From Nancy Kaffer of the Detroit Free Press…
haha throwing Shirkey’s word back at him is awesome
I’m no longer watching, what happened? Who did? And how?
What happened? I had to step away.
Nothing. Public comment from some state reps and citizens. Basically either (a) recounting crazy conspiracy theories that have never been submitted to a court or (b) asking the board to do their damn jobs.
But, of course, we live in an age where a decent number of people think (a) makes more sense than (b).
You’d think that Biden’s campaign lawyer in Michigan, Mary Ellen Gurewitz, would know how and be able to join in on a Zoom meeting with audio and video that work…
Haven’t we all had plenty of practice with this by now over the course of the pandemic?
More generally, watching many of the speakers this afternoon, I don’t know why people haven’t figured out by now that a hard-wired Ethernet connection always works better than relying on a wireless connection.
Now they are saying they are going to try to hear from everyone who wants to speak, and there are over 500 people waiting. They’re going to cut each speaker down to 2 minutes (not counting the time it takes people to spell out their names) so that should help, but I’m not sure they’ve thought out how long this is going to take.
Not sure what else they can do, though. If they cut off public comment, people will have a fit.
