MI GOP leaders meeting with Trump

There was one guy who appeared to think that an Ethernet connection is the same as an Internet connection - if it has an Ethernet cable, it must be connected to the Internet.

Right, I heard that too (in reference to voting machines).

Now they’re cutting the time down to 90 seconds per speaker.

500 comments at 1 minute each is over 8 hours.

No vote today; I’m not watching all 500+ public comments.

I hope they’re allowing all the comments so they can then say they did indeed listen to everybody. And that they then do indeed do their damn jobs.

– I do know from planning board meetings that sometimes it defuses things just to let people talk for a while. And in this case, if they let them all talk, by the time they vote people will be too tired to make a fuss (at least, until the next morning.)

I’m not watching this thing at all. I’m sure I’ll read about it, though.

That’s ridiculous. There’s got to be a cutoff point. All 500 people don’t need to get their 2 cents in. Come ON. What if more people keep piling in?

Well, if they don’t even vote today then they’ve missed the deadline so what then?

Looks like they may cut to the chase and vote on the motion after the current speaker (last clerk waiting to speak).

Mr. Van Langevelde is speaking now; looks like he is implying that he’s going to vote to certify.

He’s now quoting John Adams (“We are a nation of laws, not men.”)

Just said that he supports the motion!

P.S. Mr. Shinkle is now reading a prepared statement. It looks like he is going to vote against the motion.

Bah. I decided I did want to watch that; but by the time I found the link, what I got was Shinkle, reading a batch of complaints.

Go do something else for a while, thorny!

– except instead I backed up the video. Nice speech.

I’m not watching the meeting anymore, but in my understanding of Robert’s Rules (solely from union conventions and meetings), at some point someone can just call the question if discussion goes on too long. Is that what happened?

Motion passed! MI vote is certified.

3 yay and 1 abstention, so doofus didn’t quite vote against after all

Yay! Now for the next step, whatever that may be. I suppose trump’s team or some other GOP people will still sue.

They will no doubt accuse everyone there of being shape-shifting Lizard People.

Makes as much sense as their other legal “arguments”

Thank Og!

In Michigan there really aren’t any more steps, at least not for shenanigans. The state house might hold some hearings. Trump (or somebody else) might file some court cases. But without evidence nothing will happen due to either of those attempts. MI is done and dusted.

Yeah, I think you’re right based on what I’ve been reading. Just figured someone will want another count or audit and maybe try to get something to the Michigan Supreme Court. But yeah, if their “evidence” is the same as it has been, trump’s side will continue to get nowhere fast.

I’m just wondering how long he can drag out all these different motions in the swing states. He’ll probably keep filing all the way up to January 20 unless some judges finally tell him to stop. I’m kind of looking forward to that day.

For Biden/Harris, right?

Yes, of course. Barring some extremely compelling evidence that nobody has seen yet that would cause a judge to overturn a duly certified election.
