I watched a good movie “Mi Vie en Rose” (my Life in Pink) a french film that was on Bravo the other day. If anyone has watched this movie I was confused about the ending – it made no sense.
The movie did a good job portraying a family that deals with the problems of having a boy who wishes he was a girl and deals with the pain of being transgendered. At the end of the movie the mother and the transgendered boy get into a fight and he climbs into a billboard advertising some doll and runs away with it. The mother chases after him, falls and wakes up on the couch of her home.
The whole family is there, the boy is still transgendered, but kow everyone has no problem with it and life goes on happily ever after. Huh?
The movie was good and down to earth (if you like sub-titled films) until that ending. Did I miss some symbolic meaning at the end or was it a case of the writers not knowing how to end the film?
I saw it a long time ago, but if I remember correctly, the poor kid finally starts hallucinating and trying to escape from reality. When his parents realize how serious he is about all this, they decide they love him so much that his problem no longer seems so important.
IIRC, this sequence was a dream the mother had while napping on the couch, and once she wakes up she realizes what a hard time her poor kid has had and decides to be more accepting.
