He really was quite talented, but so much of that was overshadowed by the sheer freak show of his life. These last couple of decades, he was seen as a weird (and slightly creepy) combination of naive and unbalanced. It’s too bad that someone so gifted didn’t have more than a fleeting familiarity with normalcy. I’m sure those final moments were scary ones, but it sounded like a lot of his life was fairly unhappy. A shame.

It could have been. “Cardiac arrest” is kind of a general term for your heart stopping (and that could happen from a lot of different things, including something like an intentional drug overdose).
But then again, he was old enough that it could very well have been something as mundane as a massive heart attack.
I feel sad about this simply because he had so much potential, was such a gifted performer, and it all was terribly derailed by his mental problems. It is too bad that this means he never did get his demons sorted out and get his life back on track.
Well, I just hope he can finally have some peace now. Thanks for the great music, MJ.

My newest wack theory is that those promoters who had him on the hook for 50 shows, had him submit to a physical, etc., had insurance, big insurance, against this contingency…there were rumblings a week ago about him trying to backslide on some of the dates, etc. Hmmmm…
