Michael Jackson Memorial Service

I was very WTF on that also, but it seems he was to join MJ on stage in London so it makes sense from that standpoint.

Actually I’d guess Jackson was shown that very clip.

Damn! Marlon got me. That was heartbreaking.

Okay, I am bawling like a baby after hearing Paris. People forget he was a dad, and apparently a damn good one.

Wow, I’ve never heard his kids before, or seen them up close.

I’m a bit behind and am still watching Rev. Sharpton’s speech. They showed what was my first up-close glimpse of his kids and the littlest one is holding the barbie doll version of MJ. The one with the white shirt and wrist guard. Gah- that slays me…

Paris only said a few words, but it was by far the most heartwrenching moment. Poor kid.

I can’t see video where I am–is that the kid who sang “Who’s Loving You”? (He started with an Amy Winehouse song and then Simon yelled at him and then he did the MJ one, I think.)

Yep, that’s the one.

Yup. If Simon hadn’t done that, young Mr Jafargholi would most likely be in Swansea tonight. Probably in his jimjams, watching the telly.
Strange thing, life.

Wait until the end. His daughter spoke and broke everyone’s hearts.

:frowning:

Is there a tape of the whole memorial anywhere yet? I missed a couple things.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen anything more sad than that.

Say all you want about Michael Jackson’s weird lifestyle, but to me it speaks volumes about how those kids have been raised that Paris has the strength and confidence to get up and say a few words about her dad.
What a great kid.

My local movie theater actually showed it on one of their big screens for free, so that’s where I spent the afternoon.

I was never a HUGE fan, but I did like many of his songs. I went into the theater sort of as a cynic, I’m ashamed to say, but hearing the stories of the MAN Michael Jackson made me see another side of him. Brook Shields got me a little teary eyed, and I really lost it when Paris spoke of how she loves her daddy.

He must have had a really tough life. I hope he can find peace now.

They should have had the two ‘world healing’ songs at the end. Having the family speak after the songs was anti-climatic.

You thought what his daughter said was anti-climactic? Whoa.

I was sniffly a bit through the whole thing, but mostly a joyful sort of sniffly- everyone was honoring his life, telling happy stories. Some things that really touched me though and made me cry:

Sharpton, who may usually be a douche but douches can be right sometimes too, to the kids: “I want his three children to know, there wasn’t nothing strange about your daddy. It was strange what your daddy had to deal with. He dealt with it anyway. He dealt with it for us.” Paris standing up and clapping when he said this. :frowning:

Jermaine’s “Smile”

Marlon’s speech about how they will never know what Michael suffered, but hopefully people will leave him alone now. Janet nodding in the background while holding the kids.

And, of course, Paris. God, that poor little girl. I broke down. What a strong young lady.

I haven’t seen it, but does a memorial service really need to be climactic? It’s not a concert or an event to entertain–the whole point is for Michael Jackson’s loved ones to remember him.

Is there any way to catch it if we missed it during the day?

There are bunches of clips on different news sites. Here’s the BBC clip of his daughter, you can see the other videos on the right.

marlon with his asking micheal to hug his twin and paris, good heavens, paris… those 2 were the ones who really got to me.
