Grief is, how you deal with it isn’t. Some people are more private, some prefer to vent with others. Some are going to be more willing to do what Paris Jackson did, others might deal the way her brothers did.
not at that time. janet, latoya, and rebbie spoke at another time, just the 3 of them.
interesting hats and fashions, latoya had the huge hat and suit with trousers. rebbie had a smaller hat and suit with skirt. janet had the smallest hat and a 1940’s ish style dress. they weren’t matchy- matchy, but went well together.
Gotta say, I’ve always admired the Af-Am tradition of great hats in ceremony. It’s a distinction, and, can see the solace in funerals for shading and serving to protect those grieving. The sunglasses in So Cal serve the same purpose.
I confess I tuned in to this because I had the luxury of the day off, really. I ended up being really impressed and moved and finally lost my shit entirely when Marlon mentioned his dead twin, Brandon. (I had no idea, seriously. How many parallels are there between the Jacksons and the Presleys?)
Well, I knew Mariah was going to sing, and I’m not usually a fan, but I was not expecting her to be choked up like she was, and goldangit she made me get all choked up and I couldn’t even get all snarky about her terrible hair, etc. (Thank goodness some of you noticed she was wearing a slutty dress! Typical, of her I mean. And you I guess. I’m sorry I let my guard down. I’ll try to do better. I was having “ladies time” so I was a little off my game if you know what I mean.) ANYWAYS! When Kobe came out and said all about how he’d given more to charity than any other pop star ever I was like “WOWIE WOW WOW!” but then kind of thought “well, because maybe every other pop star is just a cheap shit?” But I don’t think that’s the case, I think a lot of them give a lot to charity just for tax reasons alone. I mean quietly. And plus when you think about what blowhard “figurehead” people like Sting and U2 and whoever supposedly give to charity and he did more than them and didn’t be all preachy about it? Coolie. But the thing that impressed me the most was when the Senator from Texas got up and told how he spent his free time visiting wounded soldiers at Army hospitals and trying to further AIDS research in Congress. That was kind of blowing my mind because…that was like the side of him that WASN’T being weird that you didn’t see. And the reason you didn’t see that is because that isn’t what sells papers, unfortunately. (Though the strange irony is NOTHING sells papers now.) And the sad thing is that if he hadn’t given so much and built so many hospital wings, etc etc etc…would his estate be as messed up as it is now? (Oh I know he wasted a buttload on rollercoasters and golden toilets, etc but still…you can sell all that.)
Another person I am not a fan of? Al Sharpton, but damn if I don’t want him to speak at my funeral! For a minute there I thought he was going to get MJ to jump up out of the coffin with his enthusiasm! I have to say that the whole “There wasn’t nothin’ strange about your daddy” thing was OFF. There was plenty strange, let’s not sugar coat things. He had bad judgement, and I can relate to that, and I really hope people don’t bring it up in my memorial service! WHOO! I thought THAT was out of line.
Lastly: Was anyone weirded out by Magic’s story about the Kentucky Fried Chicken? Wasn’t MJ supposed to be a hard core vegetarian and non-drinker? (Did he wash it down with a Budweiser? LOL!) I mean I knew a gal in HS who was severely overweight and had all kinds of medical problems (diabetes, HBP, etc) as did her family and she decided to become a vegetarian SOLELY BECAUSE of Michael Jackson. She lost so much weight and got healthy and ended up not having to have toe removal surgery, etc. I’m not a vegetarian myself or anything but that sort of jolted me when I heard that. I wonder how many people were sort of shocked - or am I just oblivious? It’s like…oh he lied about that? WHAT ELSE DID HE LIE ABOUT?!?!
Holy crap, I forgot about him being a vegetarian. That IS odd.
Ok, I thought I was only dreaming it but it was because Fox recently re-ran the MJ epsode of the Simpsons that I was like “Oh yeah…” Homer was trying to order him beer and pizza or something and he/they SPECIFICALLY made a point of it.
Heh. That was the first time I heard about him being a vegetarian. But I’m reading his biography and it talks about how he gained weight and had an acne problem in adolescence and his brother Jermaine had gone vegetarian and was telling Michael how great it was, so he decided to do it, too. And he was reluctant to do the Pepsi ad because he only ate healthy food. Damn.
