I wasn’t aware of the follow up vote. However the safety concern is the same reason the Bush administration and the pharmaceutical companies claim they oppose re importation. So that argument is not persuasive and is usually just a smokescreen to protect the profit margins of the pharmaceutical industry.
Well, that’s a matter of opinion and I do disagree. There are medications that routinely get imported from other countries that fail our FDA standards (esp India). It’s prudent to make sure people who buy cheaper meds don’t get inferior ones, just because they can’t afford the ones here. But regardless, to think Booker is some kind of corporate shill doesn’t look at everything he’s done.
Here is a good summary of the vote and how it’s been misinterpreted. PolitiFact | Viral image about Democratic senators and 'big pharma' is misleading
Enough already, people. Sharpton would sweep the blue states, edge the key battlegrounds and pick up red states across the land. I also believe that he is one of the few figures in political life with the ability to run a major corporation.
I thought so too, but he was re-elected in 2012.
from bottom to top:
The current so-called president
everyone else suffering from dementia
Al Sharpton
Inanimate carbon rod

No, I think it was a pro-Trump crowd because I’ve seen the movie.
Moore Hillary would be my dream 2020 Democratic ticket
Hate to break it to you, Shecky, but “Obama is the worst president imaginable” jokes haven’t aged well.
On the contrary. If Sharpton ran, CA would be in play.
Don’t know what world you live in. :dubious:
And yet you seem hesitant to articulate what you saw in the movie that makes you think that.
Or he could inspire African-American voters in states like South Carolina and split the GOP firewall open.
If Sharpton ran, Massachusetts would be in play.
Moore would have less of a chance than some posters on this board.
The Democrats have an age problem with their best candidates and senior leadership.
One non-political person that I think could win would be Tom Brokaw. then I checked his age, and he’s 77.
The best Democratic Hope? Maybe former comedian, now senator Al Franken.
Obama lost SC by almost 10 percentage points. Sharpton would do worse.
Say what you like; but I have no doubt that if HRC had tapped Sharpton (or Moore) for the VP slot, she would now occupy the Oval Office.
Well, that would have been one way to keep the Russians out of the election-- they wouldn’t have needed to interfere!
I concur. I generally agree with his positions on the issues, but I find his movies (and brief television show) to be one-sided propaganda pieces filled with logical fallacies, rather than actual documentaries. They were somewhat entertaining in a rally the troops sort of way, but I always felt like I was being sold a bill of goods and didn’t like it. If I condemn those on Fox news who pretend to present unbiased facts but who are obviously manipulating their audience I can’t very well support those on the left using the same means even if I agree with the ends.
This is a left-leaning board. If we’re telling you Moore and Sharpton are unelectable, you can take what we’re saying and multiple it by ten in an actual election.
Michael Moore and Al Sharpton have as much chance of getting elected President as Gary Johnson does.
It’s not something that can be determined via description. I would need to post the entire transcript of the film* as well as (at the least) a few hundred still photos** showing audience members’ reactions, including initial folded arms and skeptical scowls that later turn to unfolded arms, full attention, and laughter and applause.
But that makes no sense since: a) nothing I post would be accepted by you as evidence that the audience was largely made up of people resistant to Moore’s message; and b) seeing it for yourself is the only thing that would convince you.
If you want to know whether or not Moore is an effective communicator in the movie, you need to see the movie.
