…by world number one Annika Sorenstam, who has become the first golfer to win either a US PGA or LPGA tournament five years running with her victory at the Mizuno Classic in Japan, her ninth victory of the year.
Only Gene Sarazen, Walter Hagen and Tiger Woods have won the same tournament four straight times on the PGA Tour, with the legendary English golfer Laura Davies (the Arnold Palmer of the women’s game) the only person to have achieved the distinction on the LPGA tour.
It’s been quite a year for Sorenstam, who won a record fifth World Championship at Palm Desert last month and has already secured a record eighth player-of-the-year award.
Wie definitely has some competition out there. Annika is simply phenomenal. There are a couple other youngsters on the tour to contend with as well. Wie needs to play consistently in the top 5 or so, and the wins will come. She has a long way to go to catch Annika though.
I want to see Wie qualify for the Masters in the next couple years.
