Michigan Voters....whom do you hate the least for Tuesday?

I have come up with a new system on voting.

Anyone who has called me.

Anyone who has a commercial on TV that I’ve seen.

Anyone who has print ads that I’ve seen.

I am not voting for.

My husband, Mr. Make Your Vote Count and Listen Intensely To Every Thing The Candidate Spews has finally lowered his standards and decided he is picking the candidate with the least annoying hair.

I’m so proud of him.

I’m torn. My choices are:

1- Vote the Democratic ballot for “uncommitted” and thus bitch-slap The Cackler.

2- Vote for McCain as I think he’d make the best president among the Republicans. This might also end the GOP race earlier, enabling more independents to vote for Obama in later primaries.

3- Vote for Huckabee as I think he’d be the easiest to beat in November.

4- Vote for Romney to get his hopes up and make him spend the rest of his fortune.

I’m thinking why bother, since our votes won’t matter?

if you crossover they will to the pubbies.

I might pull a montana and vote for the love revolution of ron paul. He’s everywhere here, not a single mitt poster have i seen. Or huckabee, or McCain I am sooo undecided!

That could be fun!

So, if he is voting Republican, this of course means he’s handing in a blank ballot, right?

The DNC fully bitch slapped the State party, even pulling hotel rooms for the convention. The GOP might pro-rate the delegates at 50%. I understand the need to keep some order, or else will have the first '12 primaries in june '11 or some such nonsense, but Michigan is almost a swing-state with a decent electoral college vote. I wonder what the general election ramifiactions will be.

I got an email from Democratic activists suggesting crossing over and voting for Romney, as Huckebee is likely to do well in SC, McCain has the momentum from NH, so giving Mitt a boost will prolong the throwdown in the GOP, which would help Dems in the general. I’m not sure if I agree with that analysis. I do like the idea of not having a R president, but McCain might not be so bad. Perhaps voting for him will lead to a national untiy ticket with Obama.

Or, I could give Dennis a little hope.

Michigan Radio is forecasting a 20% turnout, which is better than '04 (15%).

Maybe the state party should not have broken the rules, then there would not be a problem.

Ron Paul. Yes, I know 30% of what he says if flighty, but to other 70% makes damn good sense. If only he could get his flighyness down to 10% (say like only talking to God one on one like GW does) then he would have mass appeal.

I’m not saying that there shouldn’t be ramifications, but the DNC is telling people who to vote for, essentially- they pressured the candidates to get off the ballot, and those that styed on haven’t campaigned. It probably won’t change my mind one bit in the general election, but it could for a lot of people here. People that are pretty pissed off and tired of feeling ignored. People who should be, and tend to be, pretty fed up with the hackery that goes on in the Legislature. More proof that term limits do not work.

That email I got that I mentioned upthread originated at DailyKos, here’s some of the fallout. Some right-wing nut with a hard-on for Markos is crying voter fraud. Again, the irony, it burns.

[rant] Not a dig at you Shirl, but the US primary system seems to have been developed by a bunch of alien chimps. Lessee, let’s come up with a system whereby people vote for their least hated choice or figure out how to vote for the most hated opposition choice. I mean seriously, who in America gives a flying fuck what Iowa or N Hampshire think or care about? Obviously, Michigan voters can’t even take themselves seriously. And yet these circus outcomes will determine who gets the “momentum” and the party nomination. [/rant]

Yes, they did pressure the candidates and took away the delegates (Not the first time this has happened BTW. Delaware lost theirs in 1996 because their primary was too early. So it is not like this is out of the blue.) again, because they broke the rules. Not because the DNC thought that Michigan (or Florida) voters didn’t deserve to have their votes counted, not because they just hate those 2 states, but because the leaders of the state parties decided that the rules they agreed to, just didn’t apply to them, the same way they do to the rest of the states.

The party leadership in both states sound like someone caught going 80 in a 55 zone, then complaining that it wasn’t their fault they shouldn’t have to pay the fine. Of course, most of them aren’t paying the fine. I believe quite a few of them are superdelegates, so they still get to vote at the convention. They are the people responsible for the mess, and for the voters losing so much of their voice at the polls. But they don’t care because they can dodge responsibility.

To show my loyalty to Obama, I will be voting ‘‘uncommitted.’’

I’m sorry, I mean, I will be voting %&!!@# uncommitted.

As I said above, I think that there ought to be penalties for breaking the rules. It’s a shame that that penalty comes down harder on the general voter rather than those who decided to break the rules, and that’s my beef. The GOP has made MI somewhat important in the process, and might garner more support than they could have expected from independents as a result. I guess it just goes to show that for all the principaled talk from Republicans, they actually don’t have nearly as much as the Democrats.

It’s not exactly the party leadership, it the state government who signed it into law. There is significant overlap obviously, but not exactly the party leadership.

And I still believe the Dems just lost Michigan for 2008. On the Repub side, they have taken away half the delegates, but in a more real view, Michigan now has 5-10 times more influence on the repub nomination then they would have if they hadn’t moved up to now. The Dems may be inforcing the “rules” better but they just cut off their nose to spite their face.

Amen. And if you want proof, look at what happened at the Auto Show yesterday. McCain, Huckabee, and Romney all showed up to get their pictures taken with American cars and talk about how they’re going to turn Michigan into an economic dynamo. Who showed up to represent the Dems? Lieberman. Who supports McCain.

Me, I voted for McCain. I tend to agree with him, and he has balls the size of my head. Nothing against Romney, but I’m not going to vote for him just because his daddy was governor of Michigan once. Huckabee isn’t really turning me on, and Ron Paul is too far out there (as I understand it, he’s basically a libertarian.) There were one or two other guys whose names I don’t even remember, too.
