Mick Foley is one sick, twisted guy (but he writes a great novel)!

So I just finished reading Tietam Brown, former wrestler Mick Foley’s first novel. He’s written a two part autobiography (which I have read) and a few children’s books as well (which I haven’t).

After reading Have a Nice Day: A Tale of Blood and Sweatsocks and Foley is Good, and the Real World is Faker than Wrestling, I was expecting a light-hearted tale full of goofy stories and funny imagery. I mean, when you’re read a chapter in an autobiography called The Legend of the Penis Suplex, you begin to develop a feel for the author’s sense of humor. His first two books were so funny (as was/is his character on TV) that I grew to expect nothing else from him.

Boy, was I wrong.

Tietam Brown ranks in my top three most fucked up novels I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading. I don’t want to give away any parts of the story. But I will tell you that within the span of 15 pages, I went from being shocked to utterly disgusted to dizzily happy for the protagonist.

Anyone else out there read this book? If so, what did you think of it?

Hrm. I read the first one and was vastly surprised at how good it was. Must check these out.

Is it in paperback yet?

I loved Have a Nice Day and Foley is Good.

Foley fan here. Its on my “must read” list.

Well, I kind of thought Tietam went a little too back-and-forth from the sentimental, laid back friendly dude to the stone cold killer…there wasn’t much middle ground.

Plus, Foley was pretty much writing about himself. Tietam loves Christmas, just like Foley. Tietam is socially awkward, just like Foley. Some of Tietam’s lines were the same ones Foley used in his autobiographies, like “Who sings that? Let’s keep it that way.”

Foley’s a great storyteller, he just needs to work on continuity a little more.
