Somebody here was looking for instructions on how to build a microcar for $5K. Here’s an assembled one for $4650.
Wow, that looks like the car from Brazil!
Where does the windup key go?
Cheez, man!
Is that thing street-legal?
And, while I’m in this thread, does anyone know where I can get plans or a kit for a Dymaxion car?
The closest I’ve found are copies of Bucky’s patent for the car and these guys sell plans and kits for three wheeled cars so you might be able to come up with something by combining the two. If you need a copy of the Dymaxion car patent, you might be able to find it at The Buckminster Fuller Institute’s website. If you can’t find it there, e-mail me, and I’ll be more than happy to e-mail you the files.
It’s a frickin’ tricycle! It sure must handle differently.
And I’d be wondering about the street-legal part myself.
Probably, they are starting to try to sell something quite similar now called The Sparrow.
Both the Freeway and the Sparrow are street-legal, and can probably be registered as a motorcycle in most states.
But for $14-odd thousand, one can buy a gently-used off lease real automobile or a new Kia, Hyundai, etc. Those cars offer more utility and are fully-supported by the highway and fueling infrastructure.
These are nice toys, but they’re lousy from a practical standpoint.
