Microcredit - Who besides Graamin bank?

The 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner has been announced. Grameen Bank and it’s founder Muhammad Yunus have jointly won.

For anyone not familiar with Grameen Bank, they make microloans to people unable to otherwise get bank loan, to allow them to start up small businesses.

I’m assuming that there are other reputable groups doing similar kinds of work. Does anyone here know of any?

Microcredit is big and getting bigger in aid programmes - considered better than a handout, because it encourages enterprise. I’ve heard of many in places like Bangladesh, etc.

Last year I worked alongside the Thailand Islands Foundation (news item as the website seems dead), which was extending microcredit to tsunami victims.

The Grameen Foundation website to which you linked lists its partner organizations throughout the world (look at the Where we work page).
