What a weird way to phrase that (I get it was not you who wrote that). Makes it feel like there are few PCs running Windows 10 when about half of all PCs do.
Windows 10 works fine for me. I see no reason to move to Windows 11. Especially given their ads that come with Windows 11. It seems it was made to work on tablets. I want a desktop OS, no ads.
I hate this is being forced on us.

I’d like to see a cite or some other evidence that Windows 11 “was made to work on tablets.” For one thing, there are very few Windows tablets.
Win 11 is a desktop OS. Same inner guts as Win 10 and all the other Windows dating back to NT.
With some UI concessions towards touchscreen use. One hell of a lot of laptops have touchscreens and have for years.
The idea it’s a tablet OS is utterly mistaken.

Tried it. It DID update more after creating the MS account but still no option.

As of right now, consumer ESU support ends October 13, 2026. And, of course, you can keep it beyond that. I’d consider you good until at least the end of the year.
What are the specs of your computer? There are many ways to get Windows 11 on a computer that is not officially supported.
A new computer should be something you get because you need it, because the computer isn’t working or the specs aren’t enough.
(Also, what do you do on that computer? A Linux distro might be fine.)
I was in Target today and was looking at the Apple MacBook Neo as a replacement for the nine-year-old 13" Ultrabook that I travel with but I’m really more comfortable with a Windows system. So maybe get the MacBook and run Windows on it?

It’s about 16 years old and had Windows 7 when I got it.
I have doubled the RAM to 4G !! and replaced the 256GB HDD with
a 500GB SSD.
I will take stock of my computational activities and decide if I really need it..
The short answer is .. almost certainly not, tbh.
I will look into some Linux music software (DAW) and decide..

I didn’t realize this until last week. Our office PC (Windows 10) started having problems, and wouldn’t run beyond a few minutes after booting. I decided to let a pro try and fix it. He explained there are ways of bypassing the TPM requirements for W11.
So now we have a new solid-state drive w twice the storage (cloned from old one), twice the RAM, and Windows 11 installed. Since we already had a family-plan for Office 365 I just installed it on the machine when I got it home.
From a user standpoint, it’s a new machine that’s lightning fast and only cost $350.00. Everything’s right where it used to be, and we were up and running almost immediately.
Disclaimer: there were a few small “gotchas” like printer drivers and getting calendars synched.
I’m gonna guess most of that money is for the RAM, though SSD prices are also pretty high right now.

I’m surprised the RAM and SSD were doubled for only $350. These days they have been very expensive. I believe it…I just want to know who is selling it at those prices so i can get me some.
The original estimate was higher, but the shop said the exact type my old PC needed was less expensive, and they had some in stock.

In this case, procrastination might be a good thing. The computer you buy later will be more powerful than the one you buy today.
I need to stop procrastinating and switch to Linux. The ONLY thing keeping me on windows was Quicken and I got off its teat a few months ago.
