As we progress through the age of the mobile/celluar phone, I’am quite sure that many millions of ppl have operated or atleast been exposed to a portable phone.
Further more, a large proportion of users notice the interference effects these devices have when they are in operation near electronic devices(e.g. music speakers).
These interferences seem quite “powerful”.
This begs the question: “If these microwaves can induce electrical interference in electronic devices up to 1m away, what the hell is it gonna do too my poor brain 1/10 the distance away?”.
Well, as it turns out I have heard (from a Univeristy Lecturer) that it is currently believed that it is not necessarily the signal itself, but the heat the signal generates that actually “cooks” ur brain, similar in concept to the way a microwave oven cooked ur popcorn last nite.
Well? Can someone verify this? Or any of the above?
I’m no expert on this, but I just read in the newspaper that some people have tried taping an egg between two operating cell phones and tried to cook it and were unable to have any effect on the egg.
Well, lets get one thing straight. Moderation is the key right?
Wrong…
Most people who use a a poratble phone use it regulary. For business or for calling friends.
If any of what your saying is true, there MAYBE a case of an epidemic of brain cancers (tumas) in about 20-30 years. The fact is we don’t really know “what the hell it is doing to your poor brain”.
I hear research has been undertakin to study the effects of radiation on living tissue. There exposing mice to radiation similar to that produced by a cell phone for approx. 20 mins a day.
We’ve all heard of passive smoking…
How about passive interference? Can interference affect someone near a person who is operating a cell phone?
The interference one experiences when operating a cell-phone (wheter at 800 MHz, 900 MHz or at 1.2GHz) near a device with significant RF bleed is mostly in the receiving of the signal and to a lesser extent because the interfering device sets up a little RF barrier between the cellphone and the base station with which it’s trying to communicate.
The phone itself produces a big-whoop 6/10 watt of RF over less than 6 MHz of spectrum, which can vary among 25 MHz.
This is a quite small output. While I’m confident that “it is currently believed” by someone, there is no known statistical association of cellphones and any brain cooking.
I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren’t for you meddling kids!
The latest issue of Spectrum, the journal of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers) says that there have been a number of studies, some indicating some statistical probability of effects on the brain and others that show no statistically significant effects. It would appear that the jury is still out, with the likelihood that there are no effects probably higher than the reverse at this time.
