Middleman

I have been watching this show and I think it is a really great show. It has just the right amount of funny and quirky, and the casting is great. I love Wendy and The Middleman together they complement each other well. I am looking forward to tonights episode for sure!

Finally got to see it today. I found the pilot online and caught the episode (it was at ten o’clock, not eight – they changed the time slot).

It was a lot of fun. I especially liked all the location and time captions, with a different time zone for each one.

Glad you finally got to see it! The show is really fun, I think its unique, funny and smart. In case you ever miss it they run the episodes on the ABC Family website! I know I missed the beginning of Monday’s episode but caught it online today

Still watching?

What’s everyone thinking?

Last night’s episode, ep 06, was pretty okay. It seems like The Middleman and Ida have slowed down their speech a bit, maybe so people can keep up? Or maybe the actors don’t have time to get their lines down?

I was happy with the ending. I not sure if it needed explaining or not. Being a scifi & former comic geek I just assume,
Ida has an automatic backup of some sort that downloads her into a new body.

That’s one tough cookie. Interro-droid’s not feeling so hot right now. Wonder if it’s got a backup?
They really need to drop the Wilhelm scream in every ep. Man, that bugs me. No one beyond 7th grade film school should think that’s somehow cool anymore.

Man, I never seem to hear about these things 'til they’ve been on for a while. Hate to miss the beginning. Maybe it’s online?

Pish and tosh, my good man. The Wilhelm scream enhances almost any production.

ETA: Where do they have film class in the 7th grade? Wish I’d gone to that school.

Parts of it are really wearing on me:

 • Her roommate’s soul-crisis every week
 • The threat of Dubby letting her friend down every week
 • Dubby and Dub Dub - I really wanna smack somebody
 • The consistent treatment of the bad guys as background noise to the touchy-feely stuff
 • No sense of seasonal arc, with an anticipated Big Bad - only hints at mystery (who they are working for, his name and background, her dad’s story, etc…)

I dig the characters, the snappy patter, the willfully off-kilter sensibility, the look, etc. But they gotta *do something * with what they’ve got.

When I first watched Reaper, I loved it, but it soon turned into a monster-of-the-week. Then it picked up a compelling story arc, regained some ratings points, and is coming back for a second season based on the network’s own love for it.

Now as I watch Middleman, which I at first loved, but is now turning into a monster-of-the-week, I live in hope that it’s fate is that it will improve, gain a compelling story arc, maintain its ratings, and return for a second season based on the network’s own love for it.

PS, I reckon Interrodroid is a girl.

I actually like the monster-of-the-week format. It allows for some nice riffs and gets away from darkknighting. It’s nice to see something about superheroes that isn’t so goddamn dark.

I do love what they do with the place and time titles in some episodes – the one where they used a different time zone for each, or when the time was “Breakfast Time,” “Lunch Time,” “Hammer Time,” “Country Time,” “Quittin’ Time,” and, of course, “Jail Time.”

I’m enjoying it at the moment, but they need to kill the roommate’s “crisis of the week” crap. Or kill her altogether. Roomie & her lame-ass story arcs are the weakest link in this show.

Or, even better, she needs to get it on with Middleman(she’s hot for him anyways - but not so much after the “Art Crawl” debacle) & get into that crime-fighting organization somehow, 'cuz she’s hot.

I don’t mind monster-of-the-week so much; that’s kinda what the show’s about. I also realize the show is still new and Dubby is still the trainee, but I’d like to see her character move beyond the moral lesson of the week.

I could watch Ida insulting people for half of each episode. She’s my favorite right now.

The show seems somewhere between The Tick and Eureka. We’ll see how long it lasts. Maybe they need to bring in Joss Whedon to write an episode or two and bring in his fan base.

I always feel guilty saying I like a show, because I think there is a monitor out there some place and when he/she/it sees I like a show, it is canceled.

Well, here goes the death nell of the show. I like it. It is the only show on the air I really enjoy (OK, OK, There is also the British Parliment on C-Span. That’s a hoot and a half).

I record the show, so I keep failing behind on watching it, but it’s still working for me. A few things are beginning to get repetitive, like Ida’s insults and the roommate’s art causes and Noser, who I just don’t get. The monster of the week is fun, though.

They need to start a new arc of Dubby getting past training and open up the script so that something new and different occurs. The mystery of the funding is the obvious place to go, so I’m assuming they’ll start that soon.

Yeah, it’s hardly as perfect as the pilot, but nothing could be week after week. It’s an amazing discovery to pop out of the ABC Family schedule.

I dunno, I made that up. I imagine some schools have at least a film class, and they should be teaching them the Wilhelm scream is out. OUT, I say! Anyone who uses it in my class loses at least one grade!

Part of the problem may be because it’s based on a comic book, and they’re adhering to its format too closely. I say this having never seen the comic book.

One thing I’ve noticed is it reminds me a lot of Sledge Hammer.

I just got the first two trade paperbacks today. The Sledge Hammer resemblance is not far off the mark. However, the comic was originally designed as a TV show.

This show is addictive. We Tivoed it, and just watched three shows in a row. Not bad at all, especially since we got some cleavage this time.

I missed the pilot when it first ran, and planned to catch the rerun on June 23. Then TWC decided that my request to have my cable transferred to my new address effective June 30th meant that I wanted it turned off at the old address on June 23rd. Then, when I did move they found out that the incoming line to my house had been cut, and they weren’t able to send a crew out to fix it until July 8th. By that time, of course, I had forgotten all about this show, until I saw the revival of this thread. :frowning:

Is there any place I can get caught up?

The only thing better than a burgeoning (yet doomed) MM/Lacey romance is one set to the backdrop of a wonderful Randolph Scott/Budd Boetticher western! Viva Ride Lonesome!

That said, the Titanic/tube plot was fun and a step up from the plots, mainly because there wasn’t a traditional “villain” per se, and a few nice little twists along the way. I’m continuing to enjoy this show–modest fun, but fun all the same.

And dammit, I set my DVR to record last night’s episode, but when I went to watch it today it wasn’t there. A little searching revealed the cryptic message “was unable to record this show”, although I had nothing else scheduled for that time slot.

I suspect a government conspiracy.

The episodes can be found (with a little diligent work) on the Middleman website. It seems that the Boy Band episode of last week is the only currently available, but I’d assume this week’s episode will show up soon.
